ROCHESTER, NY (January 28, 2023) -- The Susquehanna University men's track and field squad competed Saturday at the Nazareth Conference Challenge Cup, hosting at Nazareth's Golisano Training Facility.
The River Hawks picked up 45 points for the meet to take fifth place overall, finishing ahead of host Nazareth College and just behind Ithaca College.
Junior
Bryce Ellinger was back in the winner's circle Saturday in the high jump, as he topped the field with a jump of 2.02 meters. Senior
Ian Dyson finished sixth in the 60 meter dash, racing to a time of 7.22 seconds after running a 7.17 in prelims.
Ezra Miller and
Alex Evitts raced to season-best times in the 400 meters of 54.32 and 54.36, respectively, also both top 15 times in the Landmark Conference this season. Senior
Jack Warehime rank a 2:01.43 for the third-best time in the Landmark Conference this year, while senior teammate
Bradshaw Henning was right behind him with a 2:01.53.
In the 5000 meters, sophomore TJ Grenda took home second place with a season-best time of 16:03.78. In the 60 meter hurdles,
Joey Masser finished third overall with a strong time of 8.43, the top time in the conference this season along with establishing a new school record in the event.
First-year Carter Smirk was seventh overall in the 60 hurdles with a 8.59, the second-best time in the Landmark in 2022-23, while
Benjamin Bulger was eighth with an 8.63 for a season-best time.
In the pole vault,
Isaiah Blatt was second overall with a mark of 6.78 meters. Masser was third in the long jump with a final mark of 6.78 meters, adding a ninth place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 12.79 meters.
Cole Goodwin posted a season-best distance in the shotput with a 14.18 meter throw, the second-best mark in the Landmark Conference this year. Junior Ryan MacDonald was right behind him with a 13.04 meter heave, which was the third-best mark in the conference this season for ninth place in the shotput.
The River Hawks will head to the Bomber Invitational at Ithaca College February 4-5.
