SELINSGROVE, PA (February 10, 2023) – Competing at home again for the first time in more than three weeks, the Susquehanna men's track and field squad showed out on home soil, placing first out of the ten teams competing at the River Hawk Friday Night Showdown.
Multiple records were broken on the day, with Joey Masser responsible for two of them as he set a new program record in the 60m hurdles, running an 8.24 second time and winning the event, the time currently ranked 17th in the country. He would then set a new program record in the long jump, jumping 7.05 meters to win the event and rank 19th in the country.
Bryce Ellinger joined in on the fun, rebreaking his conference record in the high jump while claiming the school and facility record as well, clearing a height of 2.08 meters, the second-highest mark in the country.
Beyond the records, a number of other River Hawks had big performances. First-year Carter Smink followed just behind Masser in the hurdles, placing second while also posting the second-best time in school history at 8.31 seconds. Classmate Cole Goodwin also entered the all-time performances list, with his throw of 14.87 meters ranking third in program history. Fellow throwers Tyler Hauk and Ryan McDonald placed seventh and ninth in program history with throws of 14.96 and 14.87 meters, respectively. Finally, the 4x200 meter relay team of Ian Dyson, Elliott Davis, Isaiah Blatt, and Brandon Zimmermann took victory in the event with a time of 1:32.37, fifth all-time in program history.
The team will get to compete at home again in a week's time, as they'll host the SU Tune Up here in Selinsgrove, their final meet before the Landmark Conference Indoor Championships on February 25th and 26th, which Susquehanna will also be hosting.
