SELINSGROVE, PA (February 19, 2023) -- The Susquehanna University men's track and field squad hosted the SU Tune Up meet on Saturday, preparing for next week's Landmark Conference Championships.
First-year
Carter Smink had a strong day for the River Hawks, as he was the top qualifier in the 60 meter hurdles with a 8.49. In the finals, Smink also picked up the victory with a time of 8.51 seconds, while
Benjamin Bulger ran a time of 8.70 seconds in the prelims before taking second place with an 8.81.
In the pole vault,
Isaiah Blatt cleared a height of 4.55 meters to pick up the victory, clearing the height on his first attempt at 14' 11". In the long jump,
Austin Hurrell finished his sixth and final attempt with a new PR mark of 6.73 meters, which was also a AARTFC qualifying mark.
The weight throw saw
Tyler Hauk record a new personal-best distance of 14.97 meters for second place, while junior Ryan MacDonald was fourth after a 14.13 meter toss. The 60 meter dash was a strong event for junior Mathew Masser, who ran a time of 7.33 seconds in both the prelims and finals to take sixth place.
Sophomore
Ezra Miller ran a new PR of 23.64 in the 200 meters to take sixth place, and first-year
Rowan Smith finished fifth in the 400 meter dash after running a lifetime best time of 53.48 seconds. In the mile, TJ Grenda took seventh place with a new personal-best time of 4:35.39.
The River Hawks will now turn their attention to the Landmark Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted next Saturday, February 25 in Selinsgrove.
