SELINSGROVE, Pa. (February 25, 2023) – Susquehanna University captured the Landmark Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field championship for the second straight year on Saturday, posting 215 points and winning five events. The River Hawks finished 80 points ahead of second-place Catholic to earn their third overall indoor conference crown. The River Hawks hosted the championships in the James Garrett Sports Complex.
The River Hawks coaching staff, led by
Ethan Senecal, earned Landmark Conference Coaching Staff of the Year.
Joey Masser received Field Performer of the Year after setting school and championship records with his victories in the 60-meter hurdles and long jump, while
Austin Hurrell received the league's Rookie of the Year.
Joey Masser won the 60-meter hurdles at 8.16 and the long jump at 7.24m (23'9"), besting the previous conference title standards of Moravian's John Spink's 8.26 time from 2018 and Moravian's Kristopher Joint's jump of 7.17m (2'6.25") from 2014.
Joey Masser also took second place in the triple jump with his mark of 13.93m (45'8.5"), which stands fourth all-time in program history.
Elliott Davis also won two events, beginning with the 400-meter dash at 50.75 (fifth all-time in school history) and anchoring the 4x400 team with
Ian Dyson,
Carter Smink, and
Ezra Miller that captured a winning time of 3:31.11, edging out Catholic by .6 seconds. Davis went on to finish second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.80, just .3 seconds off the pace by Elizabethtown's Myron Holland, with Dyson finishing in third at 23.05.
Bryce Ellinger won the high jump, clearing 2.00m (6'6.75"), with teammate
Marcus Moyer right behind him at 1.91m (6'3.25") for second place.
Tyler Hauk took second in the weight throw with his mark of 15.22m (49'11"), while
Isaiah Blatt earned silver honors in the pole vault at 4.70m (15'5"), as did
Cole Goodwin in the shot put with his throw of 13.90m (45'7.25").
SU's depth was perhaps most prominent when six River Hawks qualified for the 60-meter hurdle finals towards taking the top three spots. Next to
Joey Masser on the podium were Smink in second at 8.29 and Ben Bulger third at 8.57, which now stand as the second and third best times in school history. Matthew Masser earned fifth at 8.73, which is fifth-best in program history, while
Ezra Miller's seventh-place time of 8.76 stands ninth-best.
Rowan Smith finished eighth to round out the bunch at 8.81.
Brandon Zimmerman finished next to Davis for second in the 400 meters, clocking in at 51.60. Hurrell earned third in the 60-meter dash at 7.16. The 4x200 team of
Ian Dyson, Blatt,
Justin Weychert, and Mathew Masser earned third at 1:34.21.
