ITHACA, NY (February 4, 2023) -- The Susquehanna University men's indoor track and field squad competed in the first of two days of action at the 2023 Bomber Invitational, hosted at Ithaca College's Athletics and Event Center.
The highlights started in the 60 meter dash, as
Ian Dyson placed sixth in a fast field as he ran a 7.15 in both prelims and the finals. The 200 meter dash saw
Elliott Davis tie his personal-best time of 22.99 seconds to take 12th place, and Dyson was 10th after running a 22.92.
Davis was back on the track in the 400 meter run, posting a time of 51.15 to win the event while classmate
Brandon Zimmerman was right behind him in second place with a 51.78. The times are currently 1-2 in the Landmark Conference this season.
In the 60 meter hurdles, Carter Smirk led a strong contingent from SU with a time of 8.63 for fifth place in prelims. Sophomore
Ezra Miller ran an 8.61 seconds in the final to place fifth, running a PR, and Mathew Masser also recorded an 8.77 in prelims before going 8.79 in the finals for seventh place.
In the high jump,
Bryce Ellinger added another win to his ledger as he cleared 1.99 meters, also clearing 1.86, 1.91 and 1.96 meters on his first attempt. First-year
Marcus Moyer continued to show well, as he recorded a mark of 1.86 meters for sixth place.
In the shot put,
Cole Goodwin recorded a new personal-best toss of 14.32 meters to earn third place. Teammate
Tyler Hauk finished fifth in the weight throw after recording a lifetime-best mark of 14.63 meters.
On the heptathlon,
Benjamin Bulger set personal bests his first four events, while
Joey Masser leads the event with 2741 points. Masser won the 60 meters with a 7.15 second time, while also taking the long jump with a mark of 6.72 meter. Masser also tallied a PR in the shot put of 11.40 meters, while tying his high jump personal-best of 1.76 meters.
In all, Susquehanna posted 19 season bests on the day.
The River Hawks will finish action at the Bomber Invitational Sunday morning in Ithaca, NY, with action starting at 10 a.m. with the 60 meter hurdles.
