10-Goal Second Half Powers River Hawks to 15-3 Win at Alvernia

Box Score READING, Pa. (March 1, 2023) – The Susquehanna University women's lacrosse team boasted plenty of offense Wednesday evening at Alvernia, using a 10-goal second half to walk away with a 15-3 win and improve to 3-1 on the season.

The River Hawks led 4-1 after the first quarter, scoring the first three goals of the night in the opening four minutes from Nikki Genovese, Liv Owen, and Hannah McNamara. Alvernia answered two minutes later before Kelsey Homberg delivered a strike with 40 seconds remaining in the period. The second quarter saw just one goal apiece from each side, with Alvernia's Meagan Moky scoring with 9:27 to play, only for SU's Allie Kutler to answer just seconds later as the River Hawks led 5-2 at the half.

Susquehanna broke the game open in the third quarter with seven goals, while allowing just one goal from the Wolves in the second half and tacking on three more scores in the fourth quarter. Abby Andrus netted two of the River Hawks' first three scores in the third quarter, with Homberg getting on the board in between. Following another Moky score for Alvernia, it was all maroon and orange from then on, with goals from Liv Owen, two from Allie Kutler, McNamara off a free position, Homberg, Nikki Genovese, and Makenzy Backus.

SU led in shots 28-16, converted on 18-of-23 clears to AU's 13-of-20, and caused 14 of the Wolves' 24 turnovers. Goalkeeper Emmaleen Regan posted six saves on the day. Owen and Genovese led the River Hawks with five-point days, both with two goals and three assists. Kutler and Homberg had a team-best three goals, while Homberg tacked on one assist. McNamara also had a four-point game with two goals and two assists.

The River Hawks' next contest heads to Maryland on Saturday to face off against McDaniel for a 4:00 p.m. start.
