SELINSGROVE, PA (April 8, 2023) – Saturday marked the end of a busy three days for the Susquehanna track and field programs after a great multi Thursday and Friday with their Easter Invitational. Just one day after Joey Masser set the school record for the decathlon, the rest of the River Hawks followed up with impactful performances, including a new best mark in the country and school record.
Bryce Ellinger set the top high jump in NCAA Division III at 2.07m to win the event, break his own school record, and reach an AARTFC qualification. Marcus Moyer gave SU two of the top three spots in the high jump with his AARTFC-qualifying bronze finish of 1.91m. Masser carried his multi success over to the invite Saturday, winning the 110-meter hurdles with an AARTFC time of 14.95. Right behind was Carter Smink, who not only finished second in the 110H at 15.47, but won the 400 meters with his time of 57.22, just .22 shy of the AARTFC qualifier.
Ian Dyson took first place in the 100 meters with a time of 11.26. Isaiah Blatt finished fourth in the 100 at 11.38, then headed over to the pole vault where he won with a height of 4.65m for a season best. Cole Goodwin won the shot put with a season-high 13.89m, while the 4x400 team of Elliott Davis, Dyson, Ezra Miller, and Matt Masser won the relay in dramatic fashion with an AARTFC-qualifying 3:22.82. Trailing NCAA Division II Lock Haven entering the last handoff by just over two seconds, the anchor Davis gained ground before exploding on the final straightaway to duck out in front and win the race by .31 seconds.
The River Hawks take their momentum into next weekend's Saturday split at Bucknell University's Bison Invitational and the West Chester Bill Butler Invitational.
