SELINSGROVE, PA – Ben Bulger's Doug Arthur Stadium record for the 400-meter hurdles at 52.92 won him the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference title Thursday, cementing a solid two days of Susquehanna's championship-hosting privileges. His performance and many more gave the River Hawks their highest-ever AARTFC team finish in sixth place with 36 points.
The recent Landmark Conference 400H champion came within .03 seconds of his conference-winning mark to secure gold status, padding his bid to compete in the NCAA Division III Championships, set for May 25-27 in Rochester, N.Y. Also making "natty noise" was pole vaulter
Isaiah Blatt, who took second in the event clearing 4.72m, with his career-best 4.85m earlier this season putting him 20th in the nation. Blatt then joined
Ian Dyson,
Austin Hurrell, and
Brandon Zimmerman to finish fourth in the 4x100 with a time of 41.51.
The first-years also got their kicks in, with decathlete
Rowan Smith turning in a fourth-place finish with 5,609 points, just 228 points off leader Gabe Dunlap from Grove City. He took first in the 110-meter hurdles at 15.99, second in the 400-meter run at 51.22, and third in the 1500-meter run at 4:52.93, as well as the high jump at 1.78m. Fellow rookie
Marcus Moyer, after turning heads with his second-place finish at Landmarks with a 2.01m height, finished fourth at AARTFC's Thursday clearing 1.96m.
Carter Smink qualified for the 110-meter hurdle finals after a 14.96 time in the preliminaries on his way to a 14.68 time in the finals for fifth place.
Selections for the NCAA Division III National Championships will be announced no later than Friday at 8 P.M. ET.
