Track & Field Looks to Make Unprecedented Strides at Landmark Championships

BETHLEHEM, PA – The Susquehanna University men's and women's track and field teams have unprecedented opportunities waiting for them this weekend at the Landmark Outdoor Championships, hosted by Moravian University. The men seek their third straight league title, the first in program history, while the women look to capture their first-ever outdoor Landmark crown. Victories on both ends will mark the first time the Susquehanna men's and women's teams sweep the indoor and outdoor titles in the same year, along with a combined seven of the last eight.

Another layer for the River Hawks entering the weekend is fending off the host Greyhounds, whose women have won every Landmark title dating back to the inaugural championship in 2008. Susquehanna came within one point of Moravian at last year's championships at Juniata. On the men's side, Susquehanna and Moravian are the only two outdoor champions the Landmark has ever known dating back to the first league championships in 2008. The Greyhounds won all but one championship between 2008 and 2019, interrupted only by SU's first Landmark title in 2014.

Susquehanna has had a remarkable season this spring to validate another strong title chase, with both squads earning national rankings from the USTFCCCA. The men were ranked as high as 12th, while the women received as high as 13th. The teams got a preview of the championship facility recently at Moravian's Coach P Invitational on April 22, continuing to show their brilliance amid rainy conditions. Joey Masser set a school record in the 110-meter hurdles at 14.44. Benjamin Bulger posted his Landmark-leading 54.60 there in the 400-meter hurdles and where Tyler Hauk threw a personal-best 45.62m in the discus to lead the league. Chloe Yoder and Remi Acord went right for the record books, with Yoder breaking the Landmark Conference record with her 14.09 time in the 100-meter hurdle preliminaries and Acord jumping to a school-record 5.72m in the long jump.

The relay teams have greatly improved over the course of the season, culminating most recently at last weekend's Penn Relays where both the men's and women's 4x100 teams qualified for the finals. The women's team of Hannah Alderfer, Chloe Yoder, Alexa Rine, and Alayna Krempa finished fourth with a time of 47.88 after posting a prelim time of 47.74 for a new school record and earning the top time in the region. The men's foursome of Ian Dyson, Isaiah Blatt, Austin Hurrell, and Elliott ran to a fifth-place finish with a time of 42.36 after qualifying at 42.92. Their finals time currently stands ninth-best in the region.
