Box Score SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Susquehanna men's soccer came from a goal behind to beat Elmira on Tuesday night, running out 3-1 winners with goals from
Angelo Zografos,
Max Paczewski and
John Kuderka. They also benefitted from a red card in the 67th minute to Olivier Rusch of Elmira.
The River Hawks fell behind in the opening minutes when Martin Harguindey jumped on a loose pass and slotted past
Santiago Andino in the ninth minute. The Soaring Eagles didn't lead for long, however, as Zografos pounced on a Paczewski cross to steer into the bottom left corner of the net and make it 1-1. The goal was Zografos' first in Susquehanna colors.
Paczewski got a goal of his own in the 34th minute, finishing nicely after a free-kick was taken quickly by
Clay Yannazzone and he fired past the Elmira goalkeeper with his left foot. His goal is his second of the season, one shy of his tally across the whole of the previous year. His assist was also his third of the season, and his seven points lead the team.
The Soaring Eagles were reduced to 10 men in the 68th minute, when Rusch was shown the red card for denial of an obvious goal-scoring opportunity when he fouled Paczewski. This allowed the River Hawks to really pile on the pressure, and their efforts were rewarded on the counter-attack when Kuderka made it three following a pass from sophomore
Hayden Swinehart, who picked up his first assist for Susquehanna since transferring this offseason.
The River Hawks outshot their opponents 11-9, with 8 of their 11 efforts being on target. Paczewski led the way with six shots, four of which were on target, then Swinehart added two more, both on target. Kuderka and Zografos both scored with their only shot while
Liam Raney also contributed with a shot.
The win moves the River Hawks to 1-3-2 at this stage of the season, while Elmira drop to 1-4-2. The River Hawks open conference play this coming weekend, traveling to Wilkes on Saturday. They are next at home on Tuesday for a non-conference clash with Immaculata. The win is also head coach
Jim Findlay's 199th, giving him the opportunity to seal his 200th win this weekend.
