Box Score SELINSGROVE, PA - Head men's soccer coach
Jim Findlay collected his 200th career win in a 1-0 victory over Immaculata University on Wednesday night, getting his goal in the 19th minute from forward
Max Paczewski. It's been 26 years since Findlay was named head coach, and he credited his milestone to his players and staff over the years, saying it wasn't his 200th win, but the program's 200th since he'd been at Susquehanna.
The River Hawks opened the scoring when Paczewski's shot took a deflection to beat Ryan Straub in the Mighty Macs' goal. Despite being outshot 15-14 on the night, the River Hawks were able to claim their second win of the season in style.
The home side had a few big chances that Straub kept out well, with the River Hawks managing seven shots on target.
Tony Burns, in his first start of the season between the sticks for SU, made four saves and kept a shutout in goal. The hosts tallied those seven shots on target with four in the first half and three in the second, with four shots on target from Paczewski and three from
Zach Polovitch, including a ferocious volley from the edge of the penalty area that was parried by Straub.
Four other River Hawks-
Adrian Dilascio,
Liam Raney,
MJ Dungo, and
Tom O'Keefe- each attempted shots on the night, all finishing with a single shot.
This game comes as the final non-conference game on the slate for Susquehanna men's soccer in 2023, with their eight games to come all against Landmark Conference opponents. With it, their non-conference record in 2023 will finish at 2-3-2. They move on to the first-ever Landmark meeting between the River Hawks and Lycoming on Saturday, also at Sassafras Field for a 6:30 PM start time as the nightcap of a soccer doubleheader.
Susquehanna had a 4-3 edge on corner kicks, while the hosts committed 11 fouls to Immaculata's 10. The Mighty Macs managed 4 shots on target from 15 shots overall, led by Josh Fonder with 2 and 8 respectively.
