SELINSGROVE, PA – Susquehanna's women's lacrosse team (12-5, 6-3 Landmark) achieved their highest season wins total since 2014 and best under seventh-year head coach
Randall Swope. Picking up some great wins along the way, including a pair of overtime home victories against regional power Rowan and the Landmark Conference top seed Scranton, the River Hawks achieved the number three seed for the Landmark Tournament and the right to host sixth-seed Moravian (8-9, 5-4 Landmark) on Tuesday, April 30 at 7 p.m. from Sassafras Field. For the River Hawks Faithful Tuesday's game will be a "White-Out" game, asking fans to wear white to support women's lacrosse!
Tuesday evening's matchup marks Susquehanna's first home playoff game since 2016. It is also a much-anticipated rematch between the River Hawks and Greyhounds after Moravian escaped Selinsgrove back on March 28 with a 14-13 win after trailing late in the contest 13-10. After a 1-2 start in Landmark play, Susquehanna went on a roll by winning five of its next six conference matches, with the one outlier being another one-goal difference at Juniata. The marquee matchup in this stretch was a home meeting with Scranton on April 20. The back-and-forth contest with the defending league champs came down to overtime tied at 8-8. The River Hawks won the draw control, leading to
Hannah McNamara finding the winning score on an assist from
Liv Owen for a stunning 9-8 victory and the River Hawks' first win over the Royals since 2016.
Scranton earned the top seed in the Landmark Tournament with an 8-1 conference mark and 14-3 overall record, while Catholic emerged as the two seed with an 8-1 Landmark ledger and 11-6 overall record. The winner of Susquehanna/Moravian will meet at Catholic in Thursday's semifinals, while the other Tuesday quarterfinals matchup of fifth-seeded Juniata at fourth-seed Drew will square off at Scranton Thursday.
