Men Find All Sorts of Victories in Weekend Wrangling of Penn College, E-Town

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SELINSGROVE, PA – The Susquehanna men's tennis team found different ways to win a match with a weekend sweep at Penn College on Saturday and a Landmark Conference victory over Elizabethtown at home on Sunday. They breezed past the Wildcats with a swift 7-0 victory, then needed every win it could in a comeback victory over the Blue Jays. Despite losing the doubles point and defeats at one and two singles, the River Hawks reeled off victories in the latter four singles spot, capped by Austin Imhoof's victory at six singles to edge E-Town 4-3 to improve to 3-0 on the year and 1-0 in conference play.

Against the Wildcats the River Hawks took handy victories to sweep the doubles matches. The first-year pair of Tyler Hester and Logan Rauschenberger won at one singles over Alexander Norris and John Finnegan, 6-4, followed by Daniel Murphy and Owen Miller winning two singles against Seth Priestman and Matt Williams 6-3 and Gavin Ream and Imhoof knocking off Jayden Manbeck and Logan Ogden 6-1. Rauschenberger, Miller, Murphy, and Hester all carried over to singles wins, accompanied by Thomas Hallahan winning at two singles over Finnegan by matching 6-2 scores and Nathan Bassett beating Hunter Knosky with 6-1 straight sets.

Rauschenberger and Hester represented Susquehanna's lone win in doubles against E-Town, beating Stefanos Billis and Max Lauver in the one spot, 6-3. The two team of Murphy and Miller and the three squad of Ream and Imhoof each dropped close matchups by respective 7-5 and 7-6 (6) scores. Rauschenberger was handed a defeat at one singles by his doubles adversary Billis, 6-4 and 6-2, while Miller was unable to capitalize on his 6-2 first-set win at two singles as Lauver won the remaining boxes, 7-6 (2) and 7-5. Hester was there to give the team a lift with a three-set win at three singles, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, giving every remaining River Hawk a chance to complete the comeback. Bassett led off with a four singles win over Ryan Kraychik with 6-2 scores, then at five Ream took down Isaac Reichemback, 6-4 and 6-4. All eyes moved to the six singles match, with Imhoof comfortably ahead on Sam Langer. Winning 6-2 in the first set, Imhoof clinched the match with a red-hot serve that Langer couldn't return to clinch a 6-1 second-set victory.

Susquehanna has two weeks of down time before its next competition, welcoming Misericordia to the friendly confines of Garrett Tennis Courts on Saturday, Oct. 5.
