Men's Soccer Beaten in Landmark Meeting at Drew

Box Score MADISON, NJ - Susquehanna men's soccer traveled to Drew for a Landmark meeting on Saturday, and despite going into the half-time interval level at 1-1, two quick goals for Drew led to a 3-1 defeat for the River Hawks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Early opportunities came and went for both sides before Kevin Martinez hit the post for the Rangers in the 21st minute. Martinez had a second chance to score seconds later, but Finn Kramer was equal to the task in the Susquehanna goal.
  • After Cole Kline won the ball high for the River Hawks, he played Angelo Zografos, who worked a quick give-and-go with John Destil, and Zografos saw his shot miss narrowly wide.
  • The Rangers struck first after James Cahill's shot was parried by Kramer but only fell for another Drew player in the penalty area in the 40th minute.
  • A progressive carry by Owen Smith led to a foul won by Alex Clark, and Owen Kaar's resulting free-kick got a redirection by the wall, and the Drew goalkeeper's hand was not able to keep the effort out as Susquehanna got back on level terms before the break.
  • Destil had an opportunity from a Khalil McDonald pass that was saved with the first chance after the restart in the 57th minute.
  • Two corners in the span of five minutes downed the River Hawks, as Andrew Dunne's first take found its way all the way in direct from the corner, and his second picked out Ryan Fischer to make it 3-1.
  • Following a foul in the penalty area by Susquehanna, the Rangers had a chance to score from the penalty spot, but Kramer stood his ground in goal, picking the right way and coming up with a penalty save.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Drew led 21-5 in shots, with 10 on target to Susquehanna's two. Destil's two led the team, while Kaar's goal was his second of the year, making it three dead-ball goals at Susquehanna with two direct free-kicks and a penalty kick as he scored for the second game in a row. Kramer continued his impressive debut campaign with seven saves, including the late penalty kick, as he kept out the first penalty he had faced as a collegiate goalkeeper.
  • Susquehanna committed eight fouls, four in each half, while winning 13, and both sides saw yellow twice. The Rangers won six corners to the River Hawks' six.
  • The River Hawks made two changes from their previous starting eleven, as Destil and Smith appeared from the start in attack and midfield respectively.
UP NEXT FOR SU
  • Susquehanna, now 4-7-2 on the year, sit just a point off the playoff places after four Landmark games. They have two home games in the next week to look forward to, with Juniata visiting on Tuesday, October 14th, while Senior Day takes place on Saturday, October 18th, as Moravian visit Selinsgrove.
