SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna field hockey scored the opening goal with under ten minutes to play against #24 SUNY Geneseo on Sunday, but the Knights equalized in the fourth quarter and scored again after 15 minutes of overtime as the River Hawks fell 2-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- SUFH took the only four shots of the first half, with two off target in the first quarter and two saved in the second quarter, including two chances from penalty corners ending in shots by Emma Campitelli.
- After Ella Shimp had an encounter with the Geneseo goalkeeper that resulted in a save, the Knights got their first shot of the day three minutes into the second half that was saved by Kylie Schmidt.
- Penalty corners continued to come for the River Hawks in the third period, with Hannah Garlin's insert leading to shots saved by Campitelli and Asia Daskalakis, and a second Garlin pass from the following corner turned into a Campitelli shot that was blocked.
- Schmidt came up with another big save at the end of the third quarter, before another chance from a penalty corner led to a shot missing wide.
- Campitelli made it five games in a row with a goal in the 51st minute when she hammered in from Garlin's penalty corner to open the scoring late on.
- A 54th-minute stretch of two penalty corners for Geneseo called Schmidt into action to make a save which was followed by a vital defensive save by Mackenzie Lopez.
- The Knights equalized with just under five minutes to play on a quick break resulting in a Sam Lewis goal, and another chance following the equalizer came and went from a penalty corner as Schmidt made another save.
- The first overtime saw just one shot in total, taken by Susquehanna's Mady Quigley and saved by the Geneseo goalkeeper.
- Five minutes into the second overtime, the Knights scored a second to end the game through Aubree Wenner.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Susquehanna narrowly outshot their opponents by ten to nine, with both sides posting seven on target. Campitelli took five, including her eighth goal of the season and fifth in as many games, as her goal was assisted by Garlin's fourth helper of the campaign.
- The River Hawks recorded seven penalty corners to Geneseo's six, with Quigley inserting the first and Garlin the remaining six.
- Schmidt recorded four saves, while Lopez recorded her first career defensive save.
