WILKES-BARRE, PA - Senior and reigning Landmark Conference Offensive Athlete of the Week
Emma Campitelli can all but be considered Susquehanna's walkoff hero as of late as her overtime goal on Wednesday night offered the River Hawks a 2-1 Landmark victory at Wilkes. It marked her third straight game with a game-winning goal, including two straight in walkoff fashion following her game-winner against Elizabethtown Saturday as time expired.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
- Despite Susquehanna firing on the Colonels all afternoon, they were forced to play catchup starting with Wilkes' second-quarter goal when Taylor Minck scored with just under seven minutes to play in the half assisted by Lydia Keppel.Â
- The River Hawks apparently made the right adjustments at halftime as Haley Dreisbach tied the game just over a minute and a half into the third quarter.Â
- Susquehanna tried all second half to take the lead as exemplified by a 19-1 lead in shots between the third and fourth quarters. No shot ever made it past the line, though, as both teams entered overtime for the first time this season.
- SU needed no more than one minute to settle things with the Colonels in overtime. On their first trip down they were awarded a penalty corner. With Hannah Garlin inserting, the ball moved around at the top of the box before making it to Campitelli. She fired her shot from roughly the same area she shot from to win it against E-Town, with her line bouncing through two Wilkes defenders and goalie near the right post to clinch the River Hawks' third straight victory.Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The final shots tally was a 35-3 lead for Susquehanna, including 21-2 in shots on goal.Â
- Taylor Rothermel and Campitelli both led with seven shots with three on target. Gracie Roush and Mady Quigley each had four shots on goal to lead the game, with Roush finishing with six shots and Quigley the four.Â
- Kylie Schmidt picked up the win after serving the entire 60:53 in goal, collecting one save.
- Campitelli now has 34 career points on 14 goals and six assists in 74 career games played.
