SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna field hockey faced perhaps its toughest test of the early part of their season Saturday, making a return trip to Lynchburg to play the Hornets. Going back to Virginia after facing off against UL in the first round of last year's NCAA Tournament, the 19th-ranked Hornets made this matchup more decisive with an 8-1 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lynchburg tallied the first five goals in the first half. Hornet Anna Dorrestijn scored four of those goals, including the first two in the opening quarter and the first goal of the second. She assisted the fourth goal of the game, scored by Fenna den Bieman, before tallying another score near the end of the second.
- Hannah Garlin got Susquehanna's lone goal of the contest with just seconds left in the second quarter on a penalty stroke.
- Lynchburg added three more scores in the second half, carried out by Danielle Coon and Allie Freeman in the third quarter, then Maddie Schucter in the fourth to wrap up the scoring.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Hornets totaled a 20-4 lead in shots, including 18-4 in shots on goal. The home team also had 11 penalty corners to Susquehanna's two.
- Taytum Lombardi and Kylie Schmidt split time in goal, combining for ten saves.
- After generating just one goal apiece during her freshman and sophomore seasons, Garlin leads the team so far with three goals and seven points off one assist.
