Women's Track & Field Brings Flurries of PRs at River Hawk Invite

SELINSGROVE, PA - The wintry weather outside Estill Field House Saturday matched the Susquehanna women's track and field team's flurry of top marks and personal bests as the River Hawks opened their 2026 competition hosting the River Hawk Invite. 

HOW IT WENT DOWN
  • Sophia Bostwick took first in the pole vault, clearing both her starting height of 2.72m and the highest of the day at 2.87, both on her first try. She went on to earn a PR in the mile with a third-place time of 5:23.25. Fellow pole vaulter and runner Alison Sponseller turned in a sixth-place mark in the pole vault at 2.57m, then seventh in the mile at 5:42.61. 
  • First-year Alyssa Varias made her presence known impressively in the 60-meter hurdles. She qualified for the finals after a preliminary time of 10.07, then finished third in the finals at 9.97. 
  • Senior runner Katie Wojton earned a fifth-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:37.90. Gabby Howe earned ninth at 2:44.09.
  • Bella Dauberman led the women's throwers in the weight throw and the shot put, placing ninth in both events. She threw for 13.50m in the weight throw, then 10.79m in the shot put. Keira Carbone gave SU another top-ten finish in the weight at 13.11m. 
  • Riley Schlosser and EmmaLia Ciccarello earned ninth and tenth in the mile with PR times of 5:46.95 and 5:50.92, respectively. 
  • Ashley Newman turned in a seventh-place finish in the 200 meters at 28.06. 
  • Denicia German and Annie Gehman highlighted SU in the triple jump, with German earning sixth with her second jump going for 9.75m and Gehman eighth place with her second jump measuring 9.35m. 
  • The 4x400 team of Katie Wojton, Gabby Howe, Aubrie Berwager, and Charlotte Houle finished in fourth place with a time of 4:40.06. 

UP NEXT FOR THE RIVER HAWKS
  • The next two weekends sends the River Hawks to Upstate New York for what has become an annual two-week pilgrimage to Western New York. It begins next Saturday, Jan. 24 at Houghton, followed by the Ithaca Bomber Invite Jan. 30 to Feb. 1.
