Men Continue to Shine at Houghton Highlander Invite

HOUGHTON, NY - The Susquehanna men's track and field team took their show on the road for the first time this winter Saturday at Houghton University's Highlander Invitational. The River Hawks maintained their stride from their home meet last weekend with more impressive marks. 

ON THE TRACK
  • The men's distance runners kept up their dominating pace in the 5,000 meters. Derick Blair again led the pack with another new best at 15:17.36 to finish first. Thomas McGann finished second with another season best for him at 15:54.10. Blair's converted time of 15:07.64 is third-best in the Landmark this winter. 
  • Calder El Bachir Diakite again earned winning honors in the 60 hurdles, taking a 8.30 time in the finals after qualfiying at 8.50. Carter Smink finished second in the finals at 8.32 after qualifying in the prelims with a time of 8.47. Rowan Smith qualified also with a prelim time of 9.07, then finished fourth in the finals at 8.66.
  • Dominic Santos also held his own on the straightaway, placing second in the 60-meter finals at 7.02 for an AARTFC mark. Mason Winslow was right behind him at 7.03 and Owen Nugent a time of 7.21.
  • Aidan Diglio placed third in the 400 meters at 52.58, while Liam Messina took fifth at 52.76.
  • Aaron Kolosowsky performed well in the 800 meters with a third-place time of 2:02.03. Owen Trump took seventh at 2:07.78.
  • Winslow, Santos, Diakite, and Nate Frankenfield used their speed to take the top six spots in the 200 meters. Winslow placed second at 22.71, while Diakite took fourth at 22.80, Santos fifth at 22.83, and Frankenfield sixth at 23.08.
IN THE FIELD
  • Cole Goodwin looked to follow up his Landmark Athlete of the Week performance last week with high marks in the weight throw and shot put. He won the weight by coming a hair close to his PR with a measurement of 15.32m (his best is 15.33m). He placed second in the shot put at 14.40m. Goodwin currently holds the best shot put mark in the Landmark after last week's 15.42m, with his weight throw mark Saturday ranking second. 
  • Kieran Hennessey looked to keep pace in the throws, taking second in the weight throw at 14.32m, while going fifth in the shot put at 12.70m. 
  • Seth Taub cleared the four-meter bar to win the pole vault, entering at 3.85m and clearing on his first try. He moved up to the 4.05m bar, which he cleared on his second try. Hayden Durst and Thomas Stitt each reached 3.85m.
  • Charles Montross performed well in the jumps, earning fifth in the long jump at 6.41m, then second in the high jump at 1.80m.
  • Austin Hurrell finished second in the long jump at 6.67m, which he made on his third try.
  • Gabe LaGrossa and Kyle Landry went two-three in the triple jump. LaGrossa earned a 12.13m mark on his second try, followed by Landry going 12.04m on his first jump.
UP NEXT FOR THE RIVER HAWKS
  • Susquehanna returns to Upstate New York next weekend for the Ithaca College Bomber Invite and Multi, running Jan. 30 to Feb. 1.
  • The River Hawks return to Estill Field House Friday, Feb. 6 for the Friday Night Showdown.
