HOUGHTON, NY - The Susquehanna women's track and field team had plenty of reasons to celebrate a productive Saturday at Houghton University's Highlander Invitational. While lots of new PR's were reached, the River Hawks found their new indoor pole vault record holder in the pole vault with newcomer Kendall Simms going up for 3.42m. 

ON THE TRACK

• Sophia Bostwick ran the second-fastest time in the 5,000 meters with an AARTFC qualifying time of 18:26.33. Converted out to 18:17.93 she holds the fourth-fastest time in the Landmark. EmmaLia Ciccarello, Alison Sponseller, and Riley Schlosser went 4-5-6 in the 5K with respective times of 20:02.49, 20:06.86, and 20:14.94. Ciccarello and Schlosser's times set new personal bests. 
• First-year Alyssa Varias continued her strong showing in the 60 hurdles, qualifying with a 9.88 prelim time, then going second with a new PR of 9.82. Denicia German also reached the finals after a 10.37 prelim time, then finishing fifth at 10.62. 
• Senior Ashley Newman won the 400 meters with a time of 1:03.85. Converted out to 1:03.02 she holds the ninth-fastest time in the Landmark. Newman also qualified for the 60-meter dash finals after an 8.46 time, then going seventh at 8.60 in the finals. 
• Nakayah Tyler finished fifth in the 200 meters, clocking in with a new personal best 28.16. 

IN THE FIELD

• Kendall Simms broke the school pole vault record as the first-year cleared the 3.42m bar on her third try, surpassing the previous best of 3.30m set by Sarah Bower in 2024. She opened at 3.02m, clearing on her first try before passing up to 3.22m. Clearing that on her third try, she moved past the 3.32m bar on her first attempt before facing 3.42m. She leads the Landmark and ranks sixth in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
• Denicia German took flight in the triple jump, winning with a 10.21m jump on her fourth attempt, becoming the only athlete to pass 10 meters during Saturday's event. Her mark puts her sixth in the Landmark. Annie Gehman finished third in the triple jump at 9.67m with her sixth and final jump.
• Bella Dauberman set a new PR in the shot put with a second-place mark of 11.42m, while finishing eighth in the weight throw at 12.33m. 
• Keira Carbone and Paulina Biagioni took third and fourth in the shot put at a respective 10.72m and 10.56m. 
• Abigail Haskell finished ninth in the shot put at 12.32m, while Phillips finished tenth at 12.08m. 
• Charlotte Houle continued to work on her high-jumping prowess, finishing third at 1.46m. Gehman finished one place behind with a new PR of 1.43m.

UP NEXT FOR THE RIVER HAWKS

• Susquehanna returns to Upstate New York next weekend for the Ithaca College Bomber Invite and Multi, running Jan. 30 to Feb. 1.
• The River Hawks return to Estill Field House Friday, Feb. 6 for the Friday Night Showdown.
