River Hawks Sharpen Marks at Ithaca

ITHACA, NY - Many familiar names carried Susquehanna through this weekend's Ithaca College Bomber Invitational. More top marks continued to flow, including new PRs for Cole Goodwin and Derick Blair, while Rowan Smith and Liam Messina made it a two-day affair in Ithaca competing in the heptathlon. 

ON THE TRACK
  • Calder El Bachir Diakite and Charles Montross both qualified for the 60-meter hurdles finals, with Diakite leading the prelims with an 8.43 time and Montross an 8.75. Diakite surpassed that with an 8.31 time to win the event, putting.24 seconds between him and the pack. Montross improved also for a season-best 8.73.
  • Distance runner Derick Blair kept up his momentum winning the 3,000 meters with a PR time of 8:46.60. Thomas McGann finished ninth at 9:09.76, while Hunter Valentino ran 9:30.42 and Brady Ryder 9:55.62. 
  • Dominic Santos qualified for the 60-meter finals with a time of 7.10, then recorded a 7.11 time in the finals.
  • The men's 4x200 team of Dominic Santos, Nate Frankenfield, Owen Nugent, and Henry Notarfrancesco posted an AARTFC-qualifying time of 1:30.36, the third-fastest time on the day. 
  • Mason Winslow placed fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 50.10, while Aidan Diglio finished 11th at 51.27. Adjusted to 49.32 Winslow owns the fourth-fastest time in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region. 
  • Owen Trump led the River Hawks in the 800 meters, winning his heat with a time of 2:06.85. 
  • Susquehanna finished Saturday in the 4x400 as Calder Diakite, Aidan Diglio, Henry Notarfrancesco and Mason Winslow placed third with an AARTFC-qualifying mark of 3:25.25. 
IN THE FIELD
  • Cole Goodwin continued his great work in the shot put, leveraging a 15.39m throw on his sixth and final attempt to finish second in the event. First-years Cooper Bottorf and Kieran Hennessy threw a respective 11.87m and 11.46m.
  • Goodwin finished fifth in the weight throw with a new personal best of 15.43m, which stands as the seventh best mark in the region. Hennessy threw for 14.51m for 11th overall. 
  • Charles Montross cleared his opening height of 1.78m in the high jump on his third attempt.
  • Pole vaulters Hayden Durst and Seth Taub both came through on the 4.00m bar to finish tied for sixth. Each cleared it on their third try. 
  • Austin Hurrell turned in a 6.62m mark in the long jump to finish fourth on the day.
HEPTATHLON
  • Rowan Smith and Liam Messina entered the heptathlon, which occurred between Saturday and Sunday. Smith took fifth with 4,391 points, enough for an AARTFC qualification, while Messina took 12th with 3,678 points. Smith's point total is third-best in the Mid-Atlantic Region. 
  • 60 Meters: Smith seventh at 7.41, Messina eighth at 7.41
  • Long Jump: Smith sixth at 6.22m, Messina 13th at 5.82m
  • Shot Put: Smith second at 10.72m, Messina 16th at 6.93m
  • High Jump: Smith tied for first at 1.84m, Messina sixth at 1.72m
  • 60-Meter Hurdles: Smith seventh at 9.12, Messina 12th at 9.79
  • Pole Vault: Smith ninth at 3.30m, Messina 11th at 2.80m
  • 1,000 Meters: Smith fourth at 2:59.06, Messina eighth at 3:02.99
UP NEXT FOR THE RIVER HAWKS
  • The River Hawks return home this Friday for the Friday Night Showdown Feb. 6. The following weekend they'll be split between the Nazareth Division III Elite Meet and hosting their Valentine's Invite.
