Tennis Prepares for Upcoming Spring Season

SELINSGROVE, PA - The Susquehanna University men's and women's tennis teams are set to return in less than one month for their spring seasons after an impressive fall showing. The Landmark Conference issues its Tennis Preseason Polls, with the men slotted sixth and the women eighth. Goucher topped the men's poll, while the Moravian women were the top choice, as voted on by the coaches.

The women competed in seven matches this fall, including two Landmark opponents in Elizabethtown and Scranton. The River Hawks defeated the Blue Jays, 4-2, while the Royals handed Susquehanna 7-0 defeat. In all the women went 3-4 to start the year, adding wins over Misericordia and Penn College, both by 4-3 scores. Claire Gallagher led the team in single wins with four, all of them coming in the five spot. Mackenzie Romig played primarily in the one singles spot, while Kaiya Reisinger, Amelia Maguire and Nanci Major primarily played in spots two, three and four, respectively. The team will get a boost with the return of Alexa Wanamaker, who studied abroad back in the fall and was the team's number-one singles player in 2024-25. Much of the team's doubles groups are back from last season, with the tandem of Romig and Wanamaker earning four wins as the team's number-one pairing. Maguire and Macey DiBastiani earned a 3-1 record last year between the two and three doubles spots, while Reisinger and Gallagher were 3-0 between two and three, as well. This past fall a pair of doubles teams earned two wins to lead the team in Roming and newcomer Nanci Major, going 2-3 between one and two doubles, while Freeman and first-year Emma McCann boasting a 2-2 mark in the three spot. The River Hawks look to improve on a 5-13 overall mark from 2024-25, including a 2-7 Landmark record.

On the men's side the River Hawks posted an impressive 5-2 mark in the fall with a 1-1 Landmark record, beating Elizabethtown, 4-3, while dropping its matchup to Scranton by the same score. They earned another 4-3 win over Lebanon Valley and 7-0 shutout victories against Marywood, Misericordia, and Penn College. Owen Miller and Nathan Bassett posted a team-best 6-1 singles record in the fall, with Miller holding down the two singles spot and Bassett five. Sophomore and number-one singles player Logan Rauschenberger posted a 5-2 ledger in the fall to follow up his Landmark Rookie of the Year campaign from 2024-25, where Susquehanna reached its first Landmark Tournament in three years with a 9-6 overall record. Fellow sophomore Tyler Hester earned a 4-3 singles mark in the four spot, while Daniel Murphy went 4-1 at six singles. The number-one doubles team of Rauschenberger and Hester did not disappoint, carving out a 4-2 record in the top spot. A multitude of duos shared the two and three spots, with Bassett combining for a 5-2 doubles record, including 2-0 at two doubles with Miller and 2-1 at three doubles with Austin Imhoof. Rauschenberger and Hester are the team's returning All-Landmark selections, capping off solid first-year campaigns where their doubles dymanic earned them Second Team Doubles and Rauschenberger First Team Singles.
