SELINSGROVE, PA - More season highlights followed the Susquehanna women's track and field team Saturday hosting their annual Valentine Invitational. While the day offered the River Hawks to polish their marks with two weeks to go before the Landmark Championships, another program record fell from a familiar place. First-year pole vaulter
Kendall Simms, who held the program record three times over entering Saturday, did it again after going up to 3.55m.
ON THE TRACK
- The day began with the 5,000 meters as Alison Sponseller ran a new personal best of 19:26.91. Riley Schlosser took in a time of 20:21.31, while Sydney Querry ran 20:25.97, Ayla Kerwan 20:30.63, Jess Askins 20:43.05, and Kylie Dixon 21:32.63.
- The 4x200 team of Nakayah Tyler, Ashley Newman, Alyssa Varias, and Megan McDougall finished seventh with a time of 1:53.55.
- First-year hurdler Alyssa Varias continued her great work in the 60 hurdles, qualifying for the finals after a personal-best 9.76 prelim time.
- Sophia Bostwick took on the one mile run, placing seventh at 5:33.56.
- Senior Ashley Newman ran the 400 meters, finishing sixth at 1:04.00. She also finished third in the 200 meters with a time of 27.40, while Tyler finished eighth at 28.43.
- Katie Wojton took on the 800 meters, placing ninth at 2:34.75. Gabby Howe finished 11th at 2:39.63.
- Griane Reed led the team in the 3,000 meters with a time of 11:42.38.
- The 4x400 team of Aubrie Berwager, Katie Wojton, Gabby Howe, and Calder Clark ran seventh at 4:33.46.
IN THE FIELD
- Kendall Simms continued her climb up the pole vault record books. Entering Saturday setting the program record three times, she made the fourth time a charm Saturday going up to 3.55m. She opened at 3.25m, clearing it in the first try, then making it past 3.40m and 3.55m both on her second tries. She ranks sixth in the region.
- Charlotte Houle reached 1.48m in the high jump.
- Keira Carbone led the Susquehanna throwers in both the weight throw and shot put. She finished ninth in the weight at 12.94m, then 11th in the shot put at 10.23m.
UP NEXT FOR THE RIVER HAWKS
- Susquehanna has two weeks to prepared for the Landmark Conference Championships, which they are set to host again after a one-year layoff on Saturday, Feb. 28. Between now and then the River Hawks have have the Bucknell Bison Invitational on Friday, Feb. 20.
