Men's Track & Field Holds Down Fort at JT Duals, Senior Day

SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna made it a momentous weekend while hosting the annual Jim Taylor Duals on campus. The River Hawks used their home backdrop to drop a series of new PR's and AARTFC qualifiers, while celebrating senior day for their six upperclassmen: Cole Goodwin, Austin Hurrell, Carter Smink, Rowan Smith, Thomas Stitt, and Justin Weychert

IN THE FIELD
  • The JT Duals opened on Friday with the hammer throw and shot put. 
  • Cooper Bottorf led the team in the hammer throw, throwing 44.71m on his first attempt, good for ninth place. Senior Cole Goodwin finished tenth overall at 43.58m. 
  • Goodwin continued his great work in the shot put, setting an AARTFC qualifying mark of 14.64m for fourth overall in the event. 
  • In the men's long jump Gabe LaGrossa had the 10th-best jump at 6.30m, while Charles Montross was 11th at 6.27m and Elijah Smith 13th at 6.20m. 
  • Over in the pole vault in Estill Field House, Hayden Durst took third overall at 4.15m, entering at 3.85m and reaching 4.15m on his second try. Seth Taub earned fourth at 4.00m and Thomas Stitt fifth at 3.85m. 
  • The throwers again came knocking during the javelin as newcomer Jonathan Hughes threw the third-longest jav of the day at 54.96m, good for an AARTFC qualifier and the best among Division III competitors. 
  • Goodwin set a new personal best in the discus throw, coming in with an AARTFC-qualifying time of 44.08m. Kieran Hennessy earned eighth place at 42.05m. 
ON THE TRACK
  • Picking up where last year's relay teams left off from NCAA nationals last spring, the 4x100 team of Owen Nugent, Dominic Santos, Mason Winslow, and Jordan Donahay won the event with an AARTFC-qualifying time of 42.04. 
  • The 110-meter hurdles proved successful as the River Hawks took the top two spots in Calder Diakite with a winning time of 14.34 and Carter Smink at 14.44. Nikolai Lulewich finished fifth at 15.24 and Rowan Smith seventh at 15.60. 
  • Winslow took second in the 400 meters at 49.33, while Aidan Diglio earned sixth place at 50.73. 
  • Susquehanna again took the top spots in the 100 meters as Santos won with a time of 10.90. Owen Nugent finished second at 11.01, while Nate Frankenfield earned fourth at 11.10. 
  • In the 800 Evander Lackman ran to a seventh-lace finish at 2:01.64. 
  • The 400-meter hurdles featured Carter Smink settting a new personal best time of 56.24 to lead the team in third place. Nikolai Lulewich finished fourth at 56.52. 
  • Santos posted another prolific finish in the 200 meters, winning with a time of 21.97. Frankenfield took fourth at 22.40, while Nugent placed fifth at 22.47 and Diakite sixth at 22.53. 
  • The weekend wrapped up with the 4x400 as SU's top team of Ryan Sullivan, Aidan Diglio, Liam Messina, and Mason Winslow finished third and first among Division III relay teams with a time of 3:24.18. 
UP NEXT FOR THE RIVER HAWKS
  • The River Hawks head to York College of Pa. this Wednesday for their annual Twilight Meet.
  • They then travel back down to Ursinus next weekend for their Ursinus Carnival.
