NEW YORK, NY - Susquehanna's men's indoor track and field, fresh off their Landmark Conference championship last Saturday, made one final push towards potential NCAA national championship qualifications at this weekend's All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) Championships, held at the storied New York City Armory.
Two school records were broken in the festivities, both in the distance categories and both carried out by of with the help of
Derick Blair. The distance medley relay team of Blair,
Evander Lackman,
Henry Notarfrancesco, and
Mason Winslow shattered the program record with a time of 10:21.17. Blair added to his big championship weekend with Saturday's 3,000 meters, setting a new standard at Susquehanna with a time of 8:31.40. Both of these come one week after Blair took home the Landmark title in the 5K. These performances helped Blair to a fourth-place finish in the 3K, while the DMR squad finished seventh.
More highlights came from another familiar place in the 60-meter hurdles, featuring phenoms Calder
El Bachir Diakite and
Carter Smink. Both qualified for the finals with respective times of 8.24 and 8.26. Smink captured a fifth-place finish in the finals wtih an 8.28 time, while Diakite took sixth at 8.29. The 4x200 team of
Dominic Santos,
Mason Winslow,
Henry Notarfrancesco, and
Owen Nugent finished sixth at 1:29.87, then in the shot put circle
Cole Goodwin took ninth with his fifth throw going for 14.29 meters, following up from his second-place performance at Landmarks.
The River Hawks now await official word from the NCAA on their selections for the NCAA Division III Championships in Birmingham, Ala. As of Saturday, Diakite holds the 14th-fastest time in the 60 hurdles at 8.10, his winning time at the Landmark Championships.
