BIRMINGHAM, ALA. - Susquehanna University sophomore hurdler and reigning Landmark Conference Track Athlete of the Year Calder
El Bachir Diakite officially had his bid validated to compete at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championships in Birmingham, Ala., running Mar. 13-14 at the Birmingham Crossplex.
Diakite's phenomenal winter in the 60-meter hurdles was capped by winning the Landmark Conference title in the event at last weekend's conference championships with a new conference and championship meet record with an 8.10 finals time. He qualified with an 8.22 preliminary time. This followed the trend of Diakite continuing to strip back the program record in the 60 hurdles all season, picking up a pair of Landmark Athlete of the Week honors in the process. Diakite also won the Landmark 200 meter title with a time of 22.53 as his pair of gold medals helped the River Hawks to their fifth straight Landmark indoor championship with 191.33 points. His 8.10 time is currently 15th-fastest in NCAA Division III, with the top time held by Luke Schroeder of Wisc.-La Crosse at 7.67.
