SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna multi competitors
Rowan Smith and
Liam Messina took to the decathlon Thursday and Friday as Susquehanna hosted the SU Multis at Doug Arthur Stadium. The seasoned Smith placed third overall with 5,685 points, while the first-year Messina used his collegiate deca debut to finish tenth with 4,880 points.
THE ROWAN SMITH FILE
- Finished third overall with 5,685 points.
- Ran 11.57 in the 100 meters for the third-fastest time and grabbing 738 points.
- Reached 6.28m in the long jump for the fourth-best mark and 648 points.
- Threw for 10.99m in the shot put for the fifth-best throw to earn 545 points.
- Cleared 1.81m in the high jump for fourth and 636 points.
- Finished day one in the 400 meters, running 53.35 for fifth place and 667 points.
- Opened Friday in the 110-meter hurdles, earning the fastest time at 16.13 and 718 points.
- Threw 27.55m in the discus for the seventh-best throw and 416 points.
- Cleared 3.20m in the pole vault for seventh and 381 points.
- Threw 39.50 in the javelin, earning the fifth-best mark and 435 points.
- Clocked in a time of 5:10.41 in the 1500-meter finale, good for fifth-best and 501 points.
THE LIAM MESSINA FILE
- Earned tenth overall with 4,880 points.
- Had the second-fastest time in the 100 meters at 11.55 for 742 points.
- Jumped to 5.94m in the long jump for seventh in the event and 574 points.
- Threw 7.05m in the shot put for 11th in the field and 310 points.
- Got up to 1.72m in the high jump for the sixth-best mark to grab 560 points.
- Finished Thursday in the 400 meters with a time of 52.31, good for third-best in the race to take 711 points.
- Began Friday's second day with the 110-meter hurdles, running 17.43 to earn 224 points.
- Went 2.90m in the pole vault for 333 points.
- Threw for 29.05m in the javelin for 286 points.
- Wrapped up his first career decathlon with the 1500 meters, going 5:09.14 for the fourth-fastest time and grabbing 508 points.
