HUNTINGDON, PA - The Susquehanna women's track and field team worked their way to a fifth-place finish over the weekend at the Landmark Outdoor Championships, hosted by Juniata College. Saturday evening's snapshot of the pole vault featured both the River Hawks' two Landmark champions. First-year
Kendall Simms captured the gold medal in the pole vault at 3.55m, while
Sophia Bostwick, who captured third in the pole vault, won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a new program record of 11:49.31.
Susquehanna's fifth-place finish met their projections with the Landmark's Pre-Championship poll, earning 88.33 points. Scranton won on the women's side with 196 points, while Moravian placed second with 169.5 points.
TOP FINISHES
- First-year Alyssa Varias, who conquered the hurdles all season, placed third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time 15.80 after earning the third-fastest prelim time of 15.99.
- The 800 meters featured two podium finishers for the River Hawks as Gabby Howe and Katie Wojton each posted PR's to place sixth and eighth, respectively. Howe a time of 2:25.32 and Wojton 2:26.28.
- Bostwick kept up her big day in the 1500 meters. After winning the 3K steeple and placing bronze in the pole vault, Bostwick went on to earn a PR in the 1500 at 4:57.30, good for seventh. She also ran the 5,000 meters, placing ninth with a time of 18:38.21.
- Alison Sponseller took in a new PR of 39:22.05 in the 10,000 meters, placing fith.
- Bella Dauberman occupied the podium between the hammer throw, javelin and shot put. She earned a second-place finish in the javelin at 35.72m and fifth in the shot put at 10.96m, leading the team in both events. She placed seventh in the hammer throw at 40.21m and also competed in the discus, throwing 30.30m, good for 12th.
- Dani Phillips led the team in the discus, finishing fourth at 35.67m, while Rebecca Cree took sixth at 35.16m and Catherine Sirignano ninth at 31.03m.
- Keira Carbone earned fourth place in the hammer throw at 41.78m. Sirignano placed eighth at 39.99m, while Emma Szabo took ninth at 39.54m.
- Ainslee Binkley took fourth in the javelin at 34.52m, while Brooke Charnosky took fifth at 34.26m.
- Carbone took seventh place in the shot put at 10.83m, while Ava Ross earned 10th at 10.21m.
- Simms' follow-up to her pole vault victory was in the 4x100 alongside Ashley Newman, Nakayah Tyler and Megan McDougall. They finished fifth with a time of 50.75.
- Newman and Tyler returned to the relay realm to close things out with the 4x400 alongside Katie Wojton and Gabby Howe. The team placed sixth with a mark of 4:16.93.
UP NEXT FOR THE RIVER HAWKS
- The River Hawks head up to Williams College next weekend for the Farley Inter Regional May 8-9.
- The AARTFC Championships take place May 13-14 from Ursinus College.
