SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna softball senior pitcher
Brianna Jones was awarded the Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Week after throwing ten strikeouts at Wilkes on Saturday to help the River Hawks to a 5-2 win in the opening game of their doubleheader.
Despite getting her first two strikeouts in the bottom of the first, Wilkes jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Jones settled in, shutting out the Colonels and allowing just two hits the rest of the way. The River Hawks tied the game in the fifth thanks to a two-run homer by
Sydney Perez, then added three more across the sixth and seventh innings to take the win, including another two-run homer run by
Katelyn Dugery. Jones finished with ten strikeouts with one looking.
The win clinched Susquehanna spot in the Landmark Conference Tournament for the 17th time since the formation of the league in 2008. They will rematch against Wilkes at home on Tuesday at 4 p.m. before both teams head to Moravian this weekend for the rest of the tournament that begins Friday.
