BETHLEHEM, PA – The Susquehanna University women's track and field team posted a strong bid for Landmark outdoor supremacy Saturday, earning a first-day total of 65 points at the Landmark Championships.
Remi Acord highlighted the day with a record-setting victory in the long jump at 5.79, shattering the record books across the Landmark Championships, Landmark Conference, and Susquehanna Track & Field.
Hosted by Moravian University, the day opened with three River Hawks on the podium following the javelin, led by
Delaynee McLeod finishing fourth at 34.26m, while Ainslee Binkley finished sixth at 31.75m, and Sam Shafer seventh with a personal-best 31.02m.
Acord's record performance in the long jump was accompanied by more personal bests from teammates
Hannah Alderfer, who placed second at 5.67m,
Chloe Yoder fourth at 5.37m,
Julia Acevedo seventh at 5.20m.
Jenna Horning also earned a PR at 4.51m.
The River Hawks earned three more podium spots in the pole vault, led by
Sarah Bower clearing 3.10m for second place,
Brooke Leitzel 2.50m for sixth, and
Katie Cammarata 2.35m for seventh.
The discus throw was highlighted by
Maggie Boyer's fourth-place mark of 34.84 for five more points, which is seventh all-time.
The River Hawks carry 11 over to tomorrow's finals across the 100-meter hurdles, 100 meters, and 200 meters. Susquehanna is one-two-three entering tomorrow's 100H, led by Yoder setting a championship meet record 14.32 in her pursuit of her second straight league title, while Alderfer posted a time of 15.58 and
Alayna Krempa 15.75. SU will have five of the eight lanes for the 100 finals thanks to Krempa's 12.42 for third all-time, Yoder's 12.58 for seventh all-time, Alderfer's 12.59 for eight all-time, Rine's 12.61, and Acord's personal-best 12.92. The 200-meter finals will be represented by Krempa's 26.02, Yoder's 26.12, and Alderfer's 26.41.
Distance senior
Kallan Carter took bronze in the 1500 meters with her time of 4:44.48, off the pace by just over two seconds.
Emma Myers also had a bronze finish in the 10,000 meters, clocking in a time of 39:55.33, while
Rebekah Jones set a new PR with 42:54.78m for 12th place.
The second and final day of the Landmark Championships commences Sunday at 11:00 A.M. Susquehanna looks to retain their first-place status for its first-ever Landmark outdoor title, while once and for all loosening host Moravian's stranglehold of the women's outdoor championship, which they have won every year since the inaugural Landmark Conference Championship in 2008.
