SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna University's women's swimming's season began Friday night with the Ged Schweikert Relays, named after Susquehanna's longtime coach, as part of Homecoming Weekend. The women walked out with six victories competing against Landmark-opponent Elizabethtown and Lebanon Valley.
The team's first victory came in the night's second event, the 3x50 yard backstroke relay, where
Hannah Nash,
Megan Iannacone, and
Catherine Sirignano placed a time of 1:33.11. In the next race, the 500 yard shotgun relay, the team of Iannacone,
Kate Wolford, and
Matilda Klinetob carried a winning time of 6:44.20. The next event yielded a similar outcome for the River Hawks as
Mackenzie Moran,
Payton Kenney and
Sarah Gauntlett achieved the top time in the 3x50 yard breaststroke relay with a time of 1:42.94.
The next race called for a Susquehanna blended victory in the mixed crescendo relay, consisting of 700 yards of multiple freestyle lengths, where Eskander Bierman, Church, Pence, and Klinetob earned the top time of 6:44.53. The women poured on another victory in the 400-yard medley relay, where Wolford, Sirignano, Nash, and Moran dug in a time of 4:41.40. The last victory came in the form of the 400-yard freestyle relay where Kenney, Alvino, Church and Klinetob took the top time with 3:54.65.
The River Hawks carry on with their season on Saturday, Oct. 26 when they head down to Elizabethtown to rematch the Blue Jays at 2 p.m.
