READING, PA - Senior
Charlie Betz's Tuesday on Reading's LedgeRock Golf Club was marred by fours. The first four came from his 76 score that saw him finish four over par, including an eagle on the par-five eighth hole and two birdies. This brought him to place fourth individually in the 39-player field that featured teams across NCAA Divisions II and III, including the top three team finishers Alvernia, West Chester, and Rutgers-Camden. This led the River Hawks to finish fourth with a 328 (+40) team score, tying with Arcadia.
Jonathan Spohn was the team's next top finisher, winding up tied for eighth place individually with an 80 (+8), sinking on birdie on three and nine pars.
David Birmingham and
Eli Mumau each carried 86 scores to clinch the team scoring, with Birmingham offering up two birdies and Mumau one birdie on eight. Four River Hawks shared birdies on the eighth hole, including first-year
Chase Maggs, who scored an 89 with four pars.
The Tuesday afternoon tournament marks the second of a four-match stretch between eight days for Susquehanna Men's Golf. They head next locally to Bloomsburg University on Thursday for BU's Husky Invitational from Danville's Golf Course at Frosty Valley. On Saturday the River Hawks go off with the women to Altoona for a tri-match between Penn State Altoona and Hood at the Sinking Valley Country Club.
