Women Sweep Juniata, Lycoming as Part of Busy Landmark Weekend

SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna women's swimming team paid a pair of visits to two Landmark institutions this weekend, beginning Friday at Juniata for a tri-match against the Eagles and Lycoming, then heading east Saturday for a dual match at Drew. The River Hawks celebrated a sweep of Juniata and Lycoming, beating the Eagles 173-83, then the Warriors 188-43.

This weekend marked the season debut of Ashley Derrick, who wasted no time Friday winning her first event as she captured the 50-yard freestyle at 29.49. Matilda Klinetob won a pair of events as the distance swimmer won the 400 freestyle at 4:57.96 and the 200 freestyle at 2:22.20. Cameron Alvino was the breadwinner on the solo wins total from Friday, capturing the 100 freestyle at 1:04.72, the 100 butterfly at 1:16.47, and the 50 butterfly at 32.47. Catherine Sirignano had two solo wins, including the 200 IM at 2:42.66 and the 100 backstroke at 1:14.41. Kate Wolford finished first in the 800 freestyle with a time of 10:14.56, while Payton Kenney won the 100 breaststroke at 1:25.88. Megan Iannacone won the 50-yard backstroke in a time of 35.05. On the relays front, the team of Sirignano, Kenney, Alvino and Isabella Westerfield won the 200 medley relay at 2:13.23. To close out the day the team of Kenney, Iannacone, Derrick and Wolford won the 200 freestyle relay at 2:01.10.

Against a competitive Drew team on Saturday, Klinetob placed second in the 1000-yard freestyle at 11:29.22. Wolford did the same in the 200 freestyle at 2:11.36, while Iannacone was right behind her in third at 2:13.47. Alvino took second in the 50 freestyle at 26.25, while Maddie Lebkicker touched in at second in the 200 butterfly at 2:37.07. Sirignano placed second in the 200 backstroke at 2:21.50, with Alvino coming in third at 2:24.58 and Hannah Nash fourth at 2:25.80. Wolford took second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:44.11. Alvino, Derrick, Westerfield and Kenney placed second in the 200 freestyle relay at 1:45.18. 

The River Hawks' next competition sends them off to Misericordia in their fall season finale Friday and Saturday for the Cougar Splash Invite.
