YORK, PA - The Susquehanna University women's swim team headed south down to York College of Pennsylvania for a showdown with the Spartans, kicking off the first of a two-day weekend road trip. The River Hawks made it a close one, generating 90 points to YCP's 109, as they set their sights on another tight matchup Saturday when they head to Messiah.
The day started off in the 200-yard medley relay, where the team of
Catherine Sirignano,
Mackenzie Moran,
Cameron Alvino, and
Emma Church locked in a second-place time of 1:57.40. First-year distance swimmer
Matilda Klinetob continued her great early stretch to the season and her college career posting up a second-place mark in the 1000-yard freestyle at 11:24.87. Alvo picked up her second silver finish of the day in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:07.79, while Church picked up the team's first win in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.65.
Payton Kenney was third on that board at 26.53, while
Maddie Lebkicker took third at 28.79. Sirignano earned second in the 200-yard IM at 2:22.94, with Moran right behind her in third at 2:23.50. Lebkicker and Milheim took one-two in the 200-yard butterfly to shimmy the River Hawks' points total closer with the Spartans, with Lebkicker clocking in at 2:32.23 and Milheim 2:37.43. Church won again, this time in the 100-yard freestyle at 56.66 for another key nine points, while Sirignano earned second in the 200-yard backstroke at 2:22.54.
Hannah Nash was third in the race at 2:24.06 and
Megan Iannacone fourth at 2:27.84.
The distance races kicked up again with the 500-yard freestyle, where Klinetob took second at 5:39.13 and
Kate Wolford third at 5:43.06. Moran, a skilled breaststroker, took second in the 200-yard variation at 2:35.29, then to close things out in the 200-yard freestyle relay the team of Kenney, Iannacone, Nash, and Klinetob came within one second of York's top time, placing second at 1:50.50. SU's second squad consisting of
Isabella Westerfield, Wolford, Milheim and Lebkicker were a close third at 1:50.68.
