ROCHESTER, NY – A fierce trek up to Western New York for the Nazareth Conference Challenge Cup was paved with good intentions as the men's track and field team came home with new titles under their belts. Perhaps no feat was brighter Saturday than the relay teams taking new school, meet and Landmark Conference records.
Senior
Elliott Davis, already with another school record to show for this winter with his 200 meters, joined forces with
Mason Winslow,
Austin Hurrell and
Dominic Santos to record a first-place time in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:29.41 for a new school, meet, and conference record. Interestingly enough, the previous school standard was set last year by virtually the same group as Davis, Winslow, and Hurrell posted a time of 1:29.68 at last year's AARTFC Championships with teammate
Brandon Zimmerman. At day's end the relays finished as strong as they started with a new school and conference record in the 4x400. Winslow, Ben Bulger, Zimmerman, and Davis posted a time of 3:18.09, beating out their previous school record of 3:18.30 set at the New York City Armory back in December. It also stands as the second-best time in the nation.
More marks on the track continued to roll as Calder Diakite scorched the 60-meter hurdles in his season debut. After qualifying at 8.31, he won the finals with a time of 8.22 (8.215), good for 17th in the country and second all-time. Joining him in the finals were Zimmerman with a PR of 8.22 (8.220) for second place and 18th-best in the nation, along with
Carter Smink in fourth at 8.42 and Bulger fifth at 8.61. Santos also flashed on the sprinting front, earning the fourth-best time in program history in the 60 meters with a 7.00 time in the preliminaries, then 7.07 in the finals for fourth. In the 5K first-year
Thomas McGann placed ninth at 16:15.63, while in the 400 meters
Aidan Diglio took tenth place with a new PR of 51.71.
Sophomore
Angelo Facciolo PR'd in the 800 meters at 2:15.60. During the 200 meters first-year
Jordan Donahay finished in seventh with a PR of 23.22. Diakite raked in ninth at 23.31, while senior
Ezra Miller at 23.37 finished in tenth. First-year
Kyle Landry PRs with 25.18. The second team in eighth place with Diglio, Smith, Lulewich, and Smink finished with 3:32.91. The final team of sophomore
Ian Anderson and seniors
Christian Calderaro, Josh Kimotho and Facciolo finished in 18th place with 3:47.40.
Over in the field, first-year
Nikolai Lulewich took fourth place in high jump with 1.82 meters. Junior
Rowan Smith took tenth place with 1.72 meters. In the long jump Hurrell jumped to fourth place at 6.85 meters and Zimmerman fifth at 6.80 meters. During the triple jump senior
Jackson Mabry took tenth place at 13.04 meters. In the pole vault, sophomore
Seth Taub vaulted a new PR of 4.15 meters for second place!
The men's team will be traveling back to New York for Ithaca College's renowned Bomber Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 1 and Saturday, Feb. 2.
