Scranton, Pa - Susquehanna women's swimming and diving tamed the Pacers of Marywood University in dominant fashion Saturday as they racked up multiple first-place tallies in a 173-79 victory.
The River Hawks came out of the gate swinging, as they tallied up a first place finish in the 400 yard medley relay. Megan Iannacone, Payton Kenney, Maddie Lebkicker, and Kate Wolford defeated the Pacers team by almost 19 seconds, posting an impressive time of 4:35.67. The podium finishes did not slow down there, as Matilda Klinetob won first place in the 1000 yard freestyle, followed by fellow River Hawk Catherine Sirignano, claiming second place in the event. Klinetob posted a time of 11:23.89, while Sirignano showed a time of 11:56.95. The dominant performance of the River Hawks flowed into the 200 yard freestyle as two podium finishes were claimed. Kate Wolford won the event posting a time of 2:08.66, while Isabella Westerfield scored a time of 2:12.50.
Event seven saw three River Hawks take the top three spots, Cameron Alvino won the 100 yard backstroke for Susquehanna earning a time of 1:06.85, followed by Hannah Nash's time of 1:08.66. Third place belonged to Megan Iannacone who swam a time of 1:10.28. Entering the 100 yard breaststroke was one River Hawk and and three Pacers, but the 1:13.15 time posted by Mackenzie Moran prevailed for another first place finish by Susquehanna. The first event that Susquehanna did not prevail first in, but still claimed a respectable finish in was the 200 yard butterfly. The time of 2:41.27 posted by Maddie Lebkicker was enough to claim second place for the team.
The 50 yard freestyle saw the River Hawks jump back into the first place position as Isabella Westerfield won another event for the team, posting a time of 26.91. Second place belonged to Cameron Alvino, who finished with a time of 26.95. The only diver for either team was Susquehanna's Valerie Stolz, scoring 145.55 in the one-meter dive. Payton Kenney helped continue the dominant efforts by Susquehanna as she won the 100 yard freestyle earning a time of 59.70. Isabella Westerfield kept her podium finishes going as she won second place, putting up a time of 59.98.
As most of the events on the day fared well for the River Hawks, the 200 yard backstroke was no exception. Catherine Sirignano won the event, seeing a time of 2:24.01, followed by Hannah Nash putting up a time of 2:25.55. The 200 yard breaststroke also belonged to the River Hawks, as Mackenzie Moran won the event. She posted a time of 2:39.34. Matilda Klinetob won the 500 yard freestyle, and third place was claimed by Kate Wolford. The River Hawks posted time of 5:33.82 and 5:41.58, respectively.
Cameron Alvino claimed third place in the 100 yard butterfly event, seeing a time of 1:08.13. The 400 yard IM fared well for the River Hawks, as a slew of the athletes took the gold, silver, and bronze of the event. First placed was won by Catherine Sirignano, posting a time of 5:07.07, second place by Mackenzie Moran, and third place by Kate Wolford.
Two of the three spots were claimed by Susquehanna in the 400 yard freestyle. Cameron Alvino, Isabella Westerfield, Payton Kenney, and Catherine Sirignano tallied a time of 4:00.94 to win the event. The third place time was 4:07.50, posted by Matilda Klinetob, Maddie Lebkicker, Hannah Nash, and Mackenzie Moran.
The women finished the meet with plenty to brag about. The slew of victories poised the River Hawks for the challenge that they are traveling to next Saturday, February 1 as they travel to Washington College (Md.) to face off in a tri-meet against the Shorewomen and Bryn Mawr in Chestertown, Md, beginning at 1 p.m. Afterwards they'll have their sights set on the Landmark Championships beginning on February 13 through the 16th.
