SELINSGROVE, PA – Susquehanna's indoor season began on a good note, hosting their Early Season Multi and Invite. The festivities opened on Saturday with the first portion of the heptathlon and the pole vault, while the bulk of the events occurred on Sunday. The weekend offered a new school record in hurdling phenom Calder Diakite setting a new 60-meter hurdles school record at 8.13.

THE HEPTATHLON

• Rowan Smith – Finished fourth overall with 4,355 points, the best point total among Division III competitors. Racked up his highest point total with 759 points in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.59. Earned the third-best time in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:04.39 and third in the high jump at 1.84m.
• Jayden Candelaria – Had the fifth-best point total in his career debut with 4,000 points. Had the third-best time in the 60 meters at 7.23.
• Liam Messina – Finished seventh with 3,775 points. Cleared the high jump bar at 1.78m, fifth-highest. Earned 752 points in the 60 meters with a time of 7.38.
• Gabe LaGrossa – Ninth with 3,378 points. Had the fifth-best marks in the 60 meters at 7.38 and the long jump at 6.24m.

MEET HIGHLIGHTS

• Calder El Bachir Diakite – Set a school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.13, beating the previous standard of 8.16.
• Derick Blair – The Landmark Conference men's cross country champion made a great debut in the 3,000 with the top time of 8:49.40.
• Cole Goodwin – Won the shot put and the weight throw. Aced the shot put at 15.19m, beating his competition by over one meter, then won the weight throw at 14.14m with his fourth attempt.
• Pole Vault – First-year Hayden Durst made an impressive debut clearing 3.85m after entering at 3.70m. Cleared both heights on his second try.
• 1,000 Meters – Andrew Hilke and Samuel Borge, both first-years, racked up the top two times with sub-five minute times. Hilke at 4:52.10 and Borge 4:53.66.
• 60 Meters – Austin Hurrell second at 7.073, Owen Nugent third at 7.079.
• 60-Meter Hurdles – Carter Smink finished second behind Diakite with a mark of 8.52.
• 200 Meters – Owen Nugent, Austin Hurrell, and Jordan Donahay secured the three fastest times, all in the 23-second realm. Nugent ran 23.23, Hurrell 23.39, and Donahay 23.44.
• 800 Meters – Aaron Kolosowsky placed second at 2:03.19.
• 4x400 – The young team of Andrew Hilke, Owen Trump, Jack Compton, Josh Malone ran the third-fastest time at 3:47.60 to complete the meet.
• Long Jump – Austin Hurrell jumped the second-best mark of 6.93m, just 0.01m from the best mark set by the Penn State Track and Field club team's Edward Grill. Deatrick Moyer was third at 6.20m.
• Triple Jump – Deatrick Moyer secured the best mark on the day at 13.19m, doing so on his first attempt.
