SELINSGROVE, PA – Only a few more weeks remain before Susquehanna University women's track and field heads to the Landmark Championships. Hosting Saturday's SU Invite helped to keep the River Hawks focused on picking up their impressive marks.
Senior Remi Acord posed for a highlight on the day in the triple, where she took first place after reaching 11.36m on her sixth and final jump. In addition, four of her other jumps ranging 11.07m, 11.13m, 11.06m, and 11.20m all would have accounted for the longest jumps of the competition, as Danika Bolinsky from NCAA Division II Millersville finished second going 11.03m. Fellow senior Hannah Alderfer finished third in the long jump after her final jump landed her at 5.35m. She then took to the 60-meter hurdles, qualifying with a 9.54 preliminary time, then improving to 9.48 for fourth overall.
Senior Jordan Bender placed eighth during the 5K with a PR of 19:54.29. Junior Ashley Newman kept the PR flow going in the 60 meters with a time of 8.31, as did sophomore Victoria Urbaez in the mile for fifth place with a PR of 5:35.22. Sophomore Katie Wojton also PR'd with a 5:48.55 by 14 seconds. Following the trend were sophomore Ayla Kerwan with a PR of 6:09.90, along with first-year Sophia Alampiev with a PR of 6:37.24.
During the 800 meters, senior Liza Levin with a PR of 2:24.09 placed in sixth, with Urbaez following up her day with an eighth-place time of 2:28.41 and first-year Sydney Querry setting a new PR at 2:44.32. In the 200 meters, first-years Nakayah Tyler and Megan McDougall PR'd with times of 28.98 and 30.28, respectively. Two groups competed in the day-ending 4x400 relays as Alderfer, senior Chole Yoder, Levin and Newman ran to fourth place with a time of 4:16.98, while the squad of Denicia German, Gabby Howe, Urbaez and Wojton ran 4:38.17.
Inside the track, sophomore Charlotte Houle jumped 1.48 meters for third in the high jump. On the opposite end senior Sarah Bower vaulted 3.05 meters for second place, while Alison Sponseller cleared 2.90m for seventh and first-year Kate Steinhart 2.30m for a new personal best. In the weight throw, sophomore Bella Dauberman threw 13.78 meters for seventh place, while junior Rebecca Cree PR'd at 11.11 meters and first-year Ava Lathers a PR of 8.55 meters; a 1.31-meter difference.
Susquehanna's final meet before the Landmark Championships keeps them on the home front once more hosting the SU Tune Up on Friday, Feb. 21. The River Hawks then make the trip to Landover, Md.'s Prince George's Sports Complex for Landmarks on Saturday, Feb. 28.
