SELINSGROVE, PA - Thursday and Friday featured Susquehanna playing host to its annual River Hawk Multi. The two-day event featured many highs for both River Hawk competitors in
Hannah Alderfer and
Charlotte Houle, with Alderfer winning the heptathlon and setting a new school record with 4,619 points, surpassing her previous school standard of 4,368 from two years ago.
Two waves of the hep took place, separated by the orange group and the maroon group. The orange got things started both days, with Houle occupying the group for SU. She finished in ninth place in the opening 100-meter hurdles with a PR of 19.20. During the high jump, Houle jumped 1.47 meters in second place, then threw 8.95 meters in the shot put to place fourth. In the 200 meters Houle PR'd with a 31.21, finishing day one in seventh place in the group with 1,822 points.
In the maroon group, senior
Hannah Alderfer placed first in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.11. For the high jump, Alderfer took 1.48 meters for eighth place. During the shot put, Alderfer wound up in seventh place, throwing 9.76 meters. She closed out her day in the 200 meters with a first-place time of 26.33, giving her 2,709 points for the day in second place.
Day two Friday opened again with the orange group as Houle led off jumping 4.12 meters in the long jump. Houle then placed third in the javelin with a PR of 24.32 meters. In the 800-meter finale, Houle ran a new PR of 2:45.19, finishing ninth in her group with 3,043 points.
With the school record a few great feats away, Alderfer got going in the maroon group with a trio of high marks to reach the top of the leaderboard. It began with the long jump, one of her specialties, as she took the top mark of 5.44 meters. Then in the javelin Alderfer turned in another fine performance with the second-furthest throw of the event at 31.93 meters. It came down to the 800 meters to stake her claim as this year's River Hawk Multi hep champion and the school mark. She did just that, running 2:27.25 for the second-fastest time and putting her well over her old record and 171 points between her and second-place Claudia Ouimet from Johns Hopkins.Â
Friday evening lent itself to a series of races that started off Susquehanna's River Hawk Field Meet, with the field events taking place Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m. In the 100-meter hurdles, sophomore
Denicia German placed third at 19.05. Next came the 1500 meters as senior
Rebekah Jones ran a PR of 5:07.09 in third place. First-year
Ava Warner in fifth place ran a PR of 5:17.64. Sophomores
Gabby Howe and
Katie Wojton came in seventh and eighth with respective PRs of 5:18.35 and 5:18.43. First-year
Julianna Sobocinski ran a PR of 5:20.58 in tenth place. Junior
Griane Reed PR'd with a 5:32.02. Sophomore Alya Kerwan ran a new PR of 5:34.97. First-year
Sydney Querry PRs with 5:38.65 along with first-year
Sophia Alampiev with her PR of 6:10.75.
The team then swept second through fourth in the 100 meters. Senior
Addison Yaukey led this group with a 13.13, while junior
Ashley Newman was right behind her with a 13.22 and German a PR of 13.30. Senior
Kelly Loughlin took sixth place followed by fist-years
Nakayah Tyler and
Megan McDougall. Loughlin took a 13.68, along with Tyler a PR of 13.70 and McDougall a 14.05.
