UPPERCO, MD - Susquehanna University's men's golf team began a busy week on Monday with a visit to the Piney Branch Country Club and the Stevenson Spring Invitational. Johnathan Spohn led the River Hawks with a 79, an eight-over-par on the par-71, 6,493-yard course, good for 22nd as Susquehanna finished ninth with a 327 (+43) team score.
Finishing two strokes behind Spohn was
Eli Mumau with an 81 (+10), while
David Birmingham tallied an 83 (+12). First-year
Chase Maggs and senior
Charlie Betz each finished with 84 scores (+13), marking a great round for the team that saw them finish no more than five strokes between each other. The day featured 12 teams, with Dickinson winning the team championship with the only sub-300 team score at 297 (+13) and three players in the top nine. The individual medal went to McDaniel's Jack Manfre with a staggering 68 three-under-par score, the only competitor Monday to shoot below par.
Susquehanna returns home for its final test before next weekend's Landmark Championships as they hold a spring invitational of their own this Thursday from the Susquehanna Valley Country Club. Landmarks will run Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27 from Delaware, Pa.'s Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort.Â
