SELINSGROVE, PA - It was a dutiful Thursday for the Susquehanna University men's golf team. Not only did they host their first spring invitational since 2018 at the par-70, 6261-yard Susquehanna Valley Country Club, but the team finished third in the 12-team field with a 323 team score (+43). Additionally the River Hawks fielded a "B" team, which placed seventh with a 359 (+79).Â
Susquehanna's day was led by senior
Charlie Betz, who tallied one birdie on the day for a 77, good for fourth overall. One stroke behind him was
Jonathan Spohn, who boasted a pair of birdies for a 78 and seventh overall.
Eli Mumau took 15th with an 81 and one birdie, while
Patrick Bova scored an 87 with one birdie as well for 28th. On the "B" team
Liam Dima carved out an 84 score with one birdie for 21st place, while
Chase Maggs earned a 91 for 43rd place and
Dylan Carfara and
Bobby Croyle both a 92 for 44th.
Mark Montoya, who competed individually, finished 36th with an 89, while fellow individual competitor
Jason Czerna shot a 98 for 56th on the leaderboard. Additonal scores from the River Hawks included
David Birmingham carding a 97 for 55th on the "A" team and
Patrick Neary a 93 for 47th representing the "B" team.Â
Goucher won the team tournament with a 306 team score (+26), with Gopher Tyler Lynch medaling with a 71, where he scored one eagle and three birdies in his one-over-par score.Â
Head coach Ryan Redfern and the men's golf team have nothing but open road ahead of them to prepare for the Landmark Conference Championships next weekend at the Shawnee Inn and Country Club in Delaware, Pa.Â
