WILKES-BARRE, PA - A 40-year old Susquehanna track and field record at Penn Relays was claimed by a new SU relay team Friday night. The 4x400 squad of
Mason Winslow,
Brandon Zimmerman,
Benjamin Bulger and
Elliott Davis competed in the special Pop Haddleton MAC 4x400 race, setting a new all-time best of 3:15.14, beating the previous record in the race set by their predecessors Bob Walker, Jeff Walden, Joe Boileau, and Mike Spangler, who timed in at 3:15.2 back in 1985.
To backtrack some, Bulger got the team's stay at Penn Relays going on Thursday, running a time of 52.46 in the 400-meter hurdles, coming within .07 seconds of his PR that he ran at Moravian last week. The 4x100 relay team also ran on Friday, consisting of
Dominic Santos, Winslow,
Austin Hurrell and Zimmerman that ran a time of 41.19, another close call with their school record of 40.76 set last week at Moravian.
A batch of River Hawks, meanwhile, made the move to King's College of Pa. on Friday to compete in the Monarch Open. Waiting for them there were more PRs and notable marks. Three runners ran the 1500 meters, led by first-year
Thomas McGann running 4:13.49 in fifth place. In tenth place, sophomore
Asa Alderman with a 4:20.72, while sophomore
James Dell PR'd with a 5:06.72. During the 400 meters, first-year
Aidan Diglio ran in second place with a 50.09. Sophomore
Ryan Sullivan ran his season best of 53.35 in eighth place. In the 100-meter first-year Jake Peter ran 11.41 in second place.
During the 800 meters, McGann ran a PR of 2:02.94 in fourth place. In fifth place, sophomore
Asa Alderman reached his season best of 2:04.39. Senior
Christian Calderaro also ran his season best of 2:09.10. In the 400 hurdles, junior
Justin Weychert ran in seventh place with a 1:07.28. Jack Pete, with a time of 22.67, finished first in the 200 meters. Diglio was right behind with a 22.84, placing second, while Sullivan ran to fifth place with 24.00.
Out in the field, junior
Cole Goodwin placed first with a season-best throw of 14.95 meters in the shot put. Goodwin then threw another season best in the discus with 41.81 meters, good for second.
The River Hawks are set to host the Landmark Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships from Saturday, May 3 to Sunday, May 4 at Doug Arthur Stadium.
