GENEVA, OHIO - Three Susquehanna track runners made up the team's running slate for day two of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at SPIRE Institute. Calder
El Bachir Diakite ran the 110-meter hurdles prelims, while
Elliott Davis took on the 400 meters prelims and
Brandon Zimmerman the 100 meters prelims.
Though all three finished outside the qualifying bubble, their seasons were ones worth noting in a historical men's track and field season that consisted of a Landmark Confernce and AARTFC title, while ranking as high as seventh nationally in the USTFCCCA poll. While Zimmerman did not make the 100 finals cut, his season lives on one more day when he joins his 4x100 teammates
Dominic Santos,
Mason Winslow, and
Austin Hurrell for that relay's finals, set for Saturday at 1:05 p.m. Senior
Benjamin Bulger also runs Saturday in the 400-meter hurdles finals at 3:15 p.m. after posting the fastest prelim time Thursday at 51.99.
Diakite got SU's afternoon started in the 110-meter hurdles preliminaries. He got off to a good start, but clipping the sixth hurdle caused him to lose his balance and wound up not finishing after dropping out of the race on the eighth hurdle. Davis, who entered the weekend following a personal-best 47.11 time in the four at the AARTFC Championships, would run a 50.08 time in the final heat of the event, 19th-best in the field. Zimmerman took his place in the first heat of the men's 100 prelims, posting a time of 10.79 that stood as the 21st-fastest time in the field.
