SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna University baseball head coach Denny Bowers has announced Joe Matarazzo as the River Hawks' new assistant coach. He joins fellow coaches Bowers, Troy Allen, and Zach McCoy as the baseball team begins competition in February. Matarazzo, a New Jersey native, comes over after a two-year stint as the head baseball coach at his alma mater County College of Morris (CCM). 

Matarazzo joined the CCM baseball coaching staff in 2023 as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. He was promoted to head coach the following year, leading the Titans to the 2024 Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) championship as he had a head-coaching record of 51-38. They made the regional semifinals all three years as the program boasted one All-American in 2023, a Regional Player of the Year in 2024, and six First Team All-Region honorees between 2023-25. 

Coach Matarazzo played high school ball at Warren Hills Regional High School, playing three years on the varsity team. He was the team MVP his senior year, while being chosen First Team All-Conference, Second Team All-West Jersey and All-Area, and an All-West Jersey Gold Glove selection as an outfielder, graduating in 2011. He moved on to play college ball at County College of Morris for two years before receiving his Associate's in Business Administration in 2013. He finished his degree at Montclair State University, earning his Bachelor's in Business Management in 2015. 

Matarazzo also coached in the Atlantic Baseball Confederation Collegiate League, coaching "Untamed" for three summers and winning the 2025 ABCCL title. Outside of coaching he worked in event and operations management across major sports venues in the New York/New Jersey area, including Prudential Center, Barclays Center, and Madison Square Garden.
