SELINSGROVE, PA - The Susquehanna University women's track and field team made their home return with their annual Friday Night Showdown. The River Hawks brought their best against a competitive field that featured strongholds like Shippensburg and Gettysburg, with pole vaulter
Kendall Simms furthering her program record to win the event, as well as
Ashley Newman picking up a win in the 200 meters.
ON THE TRACK
- First-year hurdler Alyssa Varias qualified for the 60-meter hurdles finals with a preliminary time of 9.88. She finished sixth in the finals with an improved time of 9.80.
- The 4x200 team of Ashley Newman, Denicia German, Nakayah Tyler and Megan McDougall took fourth at 1:52.60.
- Sophomore distance runner Julianna Sobocinski broke six minutes in the mile with a 10th-place time and a new PR of 5:55.27.
- Nakayah Tyler led SU in the 400 meters in her career debut in the event with a 10th-place time of 1:07.15. Katie Wojton finished right behind her in 11th at 1:07.29.
- Sophia Bostwick turned in a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:30.16. Riley Schlosser finished ninth at 2:37.14, while Gabby Howe took 11th at 2:39.77.
- Ashley Newman won the 200 meters at 27.37, running and leading the first of seven heats and holding on.
- Jess Askins and Kylie Dixon took on the 3,000 meters, with Askins clocking in a time of 11:59.63, while Dixon came in at 12:11.69.
- The 4x400 team finished out the night, as Katie Wojton, Gabby Howe, Aubrie Berwager, and Calder Clark earned the best time in their heat at 4:29.14, good for fourth overall.
IN THE FIELD
- First-year pole vaulter Kendall Simms continued her meteoric rise up the record books, rewriting the school record for the third straight week at 3.52m, clearing it on her third attempt after opening at 3.22m.
- Throwers Bella Dauberman, Kiera Carbone and Aibgail Haskell each amassed over ten meters in the shot put. Dauberman led the team with a 10.79m throw for seventh, while Carbone took eighth at 10.65m and Haskell 10.03m.
- Vertical jumper Charlotte Houle jump the second-highest in the high jump at 1.48m. She opened at 1.43m, clearing that and the 1.48m bar on her first tries.
- Denicia German took seventh place in the triple jump at 9.93m, doing so on her fourth attempt, while Annie Gehman was ninth after jumping to 9.38m on her second attempt.
- Abigail Haskell was a sixth-place finisher in the weight throw with her second attempt giving her 13.05m. Dauberman threw for 12.33m, while Carbone did 12.30m.
UP NEXT FOR THE RIVER HAWKS
- Susquehanna is split next weekend, with a handful of River Hawks heading up to Nazareth University for its Division III Elite Meet between Feb. 13-14, while that Saturday the 14th the team plays host to the Valentine Invite.
