Lavitt Earns Second Team All-Landmark Ahead of NCAA Tournament

Audric Washington named Landmark Tournament MVP

SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna men's basketball scored one on the All-Conference list with the likes of Brandon Lavitt. Lavitt earns second-team honors after leading the River Hawks to the Landmark Conference title, their first since 2021-22. Lavitt led the River Hawks all season to become the first-ever sixth seed to win three straight road playoff games to clinch their third Landmark banner.

Additionally, senior center Audric Washington earned Landmark Tournament Most Valuable Player honors after his 21 points and nine rebounds against Wilkes in the championship game secured the River Hawks' right to dance for the first time since their last Landmark triumph in 2021-22.

Susquehanna's season was full of emotion as the team started the year off by defeating Delaware Valley University on the road before hosting the first Mike Scheib Memorial Tournament. Here, SU won their opening game against King's College (Pa.) before falling to York College (Pa.) in the championship game. Susquehanna tallied their first conference win against Juniata 68-66 thanks to Lavitt hitting a buzzer-beating jumper to break a 66-66 tie. After a loss at Elizabethtown College to even their Landmark record, the River Hawks strung along three pivotal wins against Penn State Harrisburg, Wilkes University, and Moravian University ahead of their Puerto Rico Clasico trip.

Susquehanna faced off against nationally-ranked opponents in Puerto Rico, beginning with the University of Chicago. SU notched a win against #22 Johns Hopkins University before returning home to Selinsgrove. Back home, Susquehanna fell to Arcadia University, before defeating Lycoming College. SU's adversity hit next, as the team saw three straight losses to their top competition in the Landmark Conference.

Susquehanna jumped back into the win column against Goucher College before once again facing a three game losing streak. Despite the tough stretch, Susquehanna defeated Wilkes University, Lycoming College, and Catholic University, with the latter coming in thrilling fashion in an 81-79 overtime win. Lavitt delivered his second double-double in this game to aid in the win with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Jackson Van Wagener used buzzer-beating heroics, beginning with an NBA-range 3-pointer as time expired to force overtime. In the closing seconds in overtime, Van Wagener stole the ball and found a wide-open KJ Carson to drop a buzzer-beating fastbreak layup. Susquehanna notched one final win of their regular season at Goucher College, with their win over first-place Catholic serving as an important key to their Landmark Tournament hopes as it gave them leverage in many tiebreaking scenarios. Finishing the season tied with Moravian, the Catholic win indeed served as the tiebreaker to get Susquehanna into the tournament.

The River Hawks' hard work paid off to make the Landmark Conference playoffs as the six and final seed, where they went out to face off against the University of Scranton. The River Hawks stunned the Royals, advancing to the Landmark Conference Semifinals, where the team would earn a rematch with defending Landmark Champions Drew University. Susquehanna played spoiler to the Rangers, defeating Drew and moving on to the Landmark Conference Championship game as the first ever six seed to do so. The River Hawks faced off with the Colonels of Wilkes University, where SU earned both wins earlier this season. Despite the 11-point advantage that Wilkes had over the River Hawks late in the game, SU prevailed victorious, winning their third Landmark banner under head coach Frank Marcinek.
