Summary

Biography

Jack was a starter at Right End on both offense and defense during most of his 4 years at SU, at a time when the entire roster had only 25 to 30 players. He also played Basketball for one year, and was sufficiently skilled in Tennis to represent SU in the NCAA tournament with his doubles partner.

Jack firmly believes that much of his success is due to the education he received at Susquehanna, where he participated in small classes with interesting classmates and outstanding college professors. SU also gave him the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of co-curricular and extracurricular activities, including Theater.  He learned leadership skills in the classroom, on the football field and as Pres. in his fraternity house.  He is forever grateful for the experiences he had during his four years at SU.

After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree from SU, Jack earned his Masters of Education and Doctorate in Education from Temple University. He has over 40 years of executive level experience in higher education, including serving as the founding President of the Collin County Community College District, a position he held from 1985 until his retirement in 2000. Dr. Anthony has also served as President of: i) Portland Community College District (Portland, Ore).; ii) Cayuga College in Auburn, NY; and, iii) Los Angeles City College (Los Angeles, Ca)., and is President Emeritus at Collin College (Texas).

Upon "retiring" in 2000, Dr. Anthony served as Executive Adjunct Professor in Higher Education at the University of North Texas and as Chair of the Bill J. Priest Center Advisory Board for Community College Education.  He also taught graduate courses in Community College Leadership and Higher Education Finance and Administration at the University.

In 2001 Dr. Anthony established Executive Resource Consulting Services, a Limited Liability Company specializing in Board training and Executive Searches.  His firm, ERCS, successfully conducted over 20 executive searches in Texas and California through 2017.  He has also served as President of: iv) Texas Association of Community Colleges; v) Texas Association of Colleges and Universities; and as Chair of the Committee on Criteria and Reports for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

His professional and civic associations at the local, state and national level are numerous and he has been duly recognized for his service by the American Association of Community College Trustees, the American Association of University Women, the United States House of Representatives, the Texas State Legislature and the California State Assembly, among others. Upon his retirement, Collin College rededicated the college theatre "The John Anthony Theatre" to honor his years of service to the College. He is especially proud of his award for outstanding service and excellence – the ROSE Award presented by the faculty and staff at Collin County.

Jack has been married to his wife, Carole, for over 60 years and together they have three children and four grandchildren. He tries to stay in touch with his SU teammates and returned to campus for the Stagg Statue Dedication in 2014.
