SELINSGROVE, PA. (March 25, 2023) – Susquehanna University women's track and field opened the outdoor season impressively Saturday on day two hosting the Jim Taylor Invitational, overcoming rainy conditions with three AARTFC qualifiers and three seniors to honor for Senior Day.
One day after
Maggie Boyer earned an AARTFC qualifying mark in the shot put, fellow throwers Ainslee Binkley and
Delaynee McLeod joined in over in the javelin. The first-year Binkley threw for 35.85m for seventh in the meet, while McLeod measured in at 34.71m for ninth. Over in the field house,
Sarah Bower cleared a PR of 3.25m for her bid to AARTFC's, giving her a third-place finish and best among NCAA Division III competition.
The midday portion recognized Susquehanna's three seniors for indelible careers as student-athletes in
Kallan Carter,
Brooke Leitzel, and
Meghan McDonald. All three were honored alongside their teammates and families. Earlier in the day Carter finished fifth in the 10,000 meters in rainy conditions with a time of 41:49.43, while Leitzel took eighth in the pole vault at 2.75m. McDonald set a new personal best in the 5,000 meters, clocking in a time of 21:01.41 for 17th place.
Fresh off her NCAA Division III Indoor Championship performance,
Chloe Yoder took fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.48, then joined
Ashley Newman,
Liza Levin, and
Avery Francis to finish out the day in the 4x400, placing third at 4:19.91.
The River Hawks take flight again next weekend, heading to the Danny Curran Invitational at Widener University Friday, Mar. 31 and Saturday, April 1.
