SELINSGROVE, PA – The Susquehanna University women's track and field team hit every checkmark en route to their third straight Landmark Conference indoor championship on Saturday. The River Hawks posted six event wins on the day, including a pair of victories from
Remi Acord who swept the long and triple jump on her way to being named the Landmark's Field Athlete of the Year. Overall, the women totaled 155 points, eight points ahead of second-place Catholic and 54 ahead of Moravian.
The women captured two victories on the track.
Chloe Yoder mastered her specialty, the 60-meter hurdles, with a prelim-best 8.94, then bested that with a time of 8.83 in the finals, breaking a new championship record.
Hannah Alderfer made the finals also with a time of 9.22 on her way to a second-place finish with a time of 9.28, while first-year
Denicia German made the finals after a 10.10 prelim time towards a 9.85 finals time for sixth. Collectively this earned Susquehanna 21 points. Yoder and
Alexa Rine tag-teamed the 60 meters, where Rine won the competition with a year-best 7.88 finals time after a 7.90 prelim time, while Yoder placed fourth at 8.03 after a 7.98 time.
Emma Myers ran a season best in the 5K with a time of 19:30.56, placing her in third.
Rebekah Jones ran her season best of 20:20.41 along with
Jordan Bender logging a season best time of 20:36.27. The distance medley relay consisting of
Sophia Pasquariello,
Caitlyn Kuhn,
Katie Wojton and
Victoria Urbaez finished in fourth place with a collective time of 13:20.21, earning five points.
Addison Yaukey, Rine,
Ashley Newman and
Julia Acevedo finished in third place in the 4x200 relay with a collective time of 1:50.38, gaining six points. In the mile Myers finished in sixth place earning three points with a time of 5:39.53, while
EmmaLia Ciccarello PR'd with a 5:57.15. Urbaez took sixth place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:26.37 for three points.
Gabby Howe PR'd with a 2:40.54 in the 3K, while
Sophia Bostwick PR'd with an 11:30.16. In the 4x400 relay,
Ashley Newman,
Caitlyn Kuhn,
Julia Acevedo and
Liza Levin placed in sixth place for three points and a collective time of 4:24.36.
In the long jump Acord came in first place with her third jump coming in at 5.59 meters. This led off a 25-point gathering for the River Hawks in the event, accompanied by Alderfer in second place at 5.41 meters, Yoder logging third place at 5.34, and Acevedo eight place at 5.02 meters. Acord followed this up with her triple jump of 11.50 meters to win the event, while Acevedo leaped to fourth place at 10.77m and Alderfer seventh at 10.20 meters.
The River Hawks' largest single-event point gathering took place in the pole vault, as
Sarah Bower and
Sophia Bostwick remained as the last two competitors following the 2.90 height. Bower cleared the next height of 3.05m, while Bostwick took silver at 2.90m. This led to a 29-point sweep in the pole vault, where
Alison Sponseller and
Katie Cammarata took third at 2.60m.
Margaret Boyer won first place in the weight throw at 15.51 meters, while
Bella Dauberman,
Paulina Biagioni,
Keira Carbone and
Emma Szabo all PR'd; Dauberman with 12.05 meters, Biagioni 11.65 meters, Carbone with 11.25 meters, and Szabo with 10.68 meters.
Rebecca Cree threw her season best of 10.47 meters. In the shot put Boyer took fourth place with 11.33 meters, as well as Carbone and Dauberman setting personal bests again in fifth and seventh place at a respective 10.99 meters and 10.07 meters. More PRs followed from
Ainslee Binkley (9.64m), Szabo (9.54m), and
Abigail Haskell (8.92m).
There will be plenty of River Hawks who will continue their indoor seasons towards the AARTFC Championships, hosted by Nazareth College starting Friday, March 1st through Saturday, March 2nd. Susquehanna hopes this sets the stage for several national qualifiers for the following weekend's Division III Championships in Virginia Beach, Va.
