Track & Field Riding Highs at Height of Indoor Season

SELINSGROVE, PA - The 2024-25 edition of Susquehanna University's indoor track and field programs continue to build a strong case to defend their championship status, having swept the men's and women's Landmark Conference indoor titles the last three years. Several broken records and top marks later, the men's program finds itself ranked 18th in the USTFCCCA national rankings, while holding down the number-two spot in the Mid-Atlantic Region rankings. The women, meanwhile, are ranked seventh in the region.

Susquehanna completed a swing of Upstate New York at two high-profile meets, Nazareth University's Conference Challenge Cup and the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational. Nazareth is set to host the NCAA Division III indoor national championships in mid-March, while Ithaca will host the AARTFC Indoor Championships the week prior. At both showcases the River Hawks fared exceptionally well. Looking ahead SU prepares to host three indoor meets leading into the Landmark Championships, starting with this week's River Hawk Friday Night Showdown, the SU Invite on Saturday, Feb. 15 and the SU Tune Up on Friday, Feb. 21. The Landmark Indoor Championships will take place Saturday, Mar. 1 in Landover, Md. from Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex.

At this key juncture of the winter we take a look into Susquehanna's season so far on an event-by-event basis.

In the 60 meter dash, Susquehanna sits second, fifth, seventh, and eighth in the Landmark Conference on the men's side, featuring Brandon Zimmerman's 6.96 time, the second-fastest in program history, set back at the River Hawks' home opener in December as the pick of the bunch. Sophomore Dominic Santos accounts for the second-fastest season best among coach Ethan Senecal's program with a 7.00 mark set at the Nazareth Conference Challenge Cup on January 25th, and Austin Hurrell is third for seventh in the Landmark with a season best of 7.03.

For the women in the 60 meter dash, two crack the Landmark's top twenty, with Hannah Alderfer's team-best 8.07 mark good enough for seventh-quickest in the Landmark, followed by Addison Yaukey 20th in the conference and second on the team with an 8.27 time.

In the 200 meter dash, Elliott Davis has been the standout, notching school and conference records twice, most recently with a 22.03 time set at the Ithaca Bomber Invitational on February 1st, while Mason Winslow has not been far behind, posting a season best of 22.38 for second-best in the Landmark. The top three Landmark 200m runners are all Susquehanna athletes, as Santos ranks third with a best time this campaign of 22.58, also set at Ithaca. The women have Ashley Newman's 27.70 200m time to boast among the Landmark's elite, with the junior posting the 19th-best time in the conference.

The River Hawks go first, third, and fourth in the 400m on the men's side, with Davis leading Winslow and first-year Aidan Diglio, all of whom have posted times under 52 seconds, with Davis over a second quicker than the next-fastest time this season with a 48.77, also a school and conference record. The women are paced by Newman in the 400m as well, but her 1:05.17 is not enough to crack the top 20. However, it is less than a second off, and her PR of 1:01 would place her 11th should she match it this season.

In the 800 meter run, the men are paced by Asa Alderman with a time of 2:02.86, just inside the top ten in the conference. Aaron Kolosowsky follows just behind with a mark of 2:04.17, and Ian Anderson is 14th in the Landmark with a time of 2:04.25. On the women's side, Liza Levin, Victoria Urbaez, and Alderfer all rank in the top ten, with Gabby Howe and Katie Wojton not far behind, also ranking in the top 20 among Landmark runners. Levin's team-best time is a 2:25.66.

Alderman, with a mark of 4:38.48, finds himself sandwiched between two first-years at the top of the River Hawks' men's performers in the mile, where Derick Blair has ran the fastest time on the campaign for Susquehanna at 4:33.05, and Thomas McGann also places twentieth in the conference with a mark of 4:40.04. A 5:37.64 time from Sophia Bostwick paces the women, with the time thirteenth-best in the Landmark Conference.

In the 3000 meter run, Alderman has set the fastest time, with the sophomore going 9:19.10 at the River Hawk Invite on January 18, the 14th-best time in the conference. First-year Ava Warner's 11:23.50 is the quickest River Hawk women's time, while it is 15th in the conference, with Bostwick's 11:31.05 second-quickest time also troubling the top 20.

McGann is the only Susquehanna athlete in the top 20 in the men's 5000m, with a 16:15.63 good enough for 12th in the conference and the best time on the team this season. Bostwick's 19:16.84 is the fifth-best mark in the Landmark on the women's side, and Jordan Bender (20:05.07), Rebekah Jones (20:29.57), Sophia Pasquariello (20:51.61) and Julianna Sobocinski (21:06.70) also placing among the Landmark's top 20.

It's all Susquehanna in the top five of the 60mH on the men's side, paced by Zimmerman and newcomer Calder Diakite with conference-leading times of 8.22 each, just six hundredths off the school and conference record. Carter Smink is third with a time of 8.40, followed by Ezra Miller's 8.46 and Ben Bulger's 8.47. Charles Montross also ranks seventh with a time of 8.63, and first-year Nikolai Lulewich is ninth with a time of 8.82. Rowan Smith also places eleventh, rounding out the River Hawks' eight representatives in the top eleven. On the women's side, just nine season bests have been set under ten seconds this season, led by Chloe Yoder, the only Landmark athlete to eclipse the nine-second barrier, with her 8.75 representing the fourth-fastest time in Division III. Alderfer also is a top-50 competitor nationwide, with a 9.19 second-best in the Landmark. Denicia German is the third River Hawk under ten seconds, with a 9.94.

The Landmark record in the 4x200m was broken just a year after it was set by a group containing three of the four runners that set the 1:29.41 time that is the fastest all-time, with Davis, Hurrell, and Winslow setting two records, while they were joined by Santos for the 2025 record. The women have not ran a 4x200m this season.

In the 4x400m, it's Winslow, Bulger, Zimmerman, and Davis standing alone as conference record-holders, with a time of 3:18.09 the best among Landmark competition. The women's mark of 4:31.05 is seventh-best, and it was set by Howe, Levin, Ayla Kerwan, and Sydney Querry.

In the DMR, the men rank second, and the women rank third. The men set a time of 11:20.59, while the women sit at 14:25.13.

Charlotte Houle's 1.53m mark is the best women's height in the high jump for the River Hawks this season, and it ranks third in the Landmark Conference. Alderfer is sixth, with a mark of 1.50m the next-best among River Hawks. Seven men rank in the top 11 in the conference, paced by Montross, with a height of 1.94m. Following him are Smith and Lulewich in third with marks of 1.85m, Zimmerman and Davis with marks of 1.82m, Bilal Abdelnabi at 1.77m, and Bulger at 1.70m.

Sarah Bower is third in the women's pole vault at 3.30m, trailing the conference-best mark by just 0.13m. Alison Sponseller has set the seventh-highest mark with a 2.85m height. On the men's side, Seth Taub places third with a 4.15m mark, the best among River Hawks this season, followed by a 3.70m mark from Lance Engel.

Alderfer and Yoder are two of seven Landmark women to long jump at least five meters this season, with Alderfer setting the third-best mark at 5.41m, and Yoder sixth at 5.13m. The River Hawk men have each of the top four, in Zimmerman, Hurrell, Montross, and Bulger, and then five more in the top 20 including Smith, Jackson Mabry, Eli Book, Lulewich and Deatrick Moyer. Zimmerman's mark leads the conference, with his season best the only jump to go beyond seven meters at 7.09m.

Remi Acord paces the River Hawks in the triple jump, with a mark of 11.46m second-best in the conference this season. Acord is joined by German among the elite jumpers, as German's season best of 10.03 is the fifteenth-best mark in the Landmark.

In the throws department, Bella Dauberman's 10.43 shot put is the best on the team, and the eighth-best in the Landmark. Following her are Paulina Biagioni, Alderfer, Ainslee Binkley, Keira Carbone, and Abigail Haskell in the Landmark's top 20. Smith and Bulger rank 18th and 19th in the conference in the men's shot put.

Dauberman has also excelled in the weight throw, with her season best of 13.79m ranking third in the conference. Haskell's 12.33m is good enough for 12th, while Carbone and Sam Shafer round out the River Hawks in the top 20. On the men's side, Cole Goodwin's 15.02m paces the league, the only mark above 15m this season.

In the pentathlon, Alderfer's 3320 places 14th in Division III and top of the pile in the Landmark, and Zimmerman's 4861 in the heptathlon places top in the league as well.
